No the death penalty would rob him of his freedom and power. If he gets the death penalty he won't suffer the psychological damage that would truly be what he deserves. The death penalty would be an easy out for him.
Let him stew and live over and over the stupid thing he did. He loves life to much and not having that freedom would be the the ultimate punishment.
