The Eagle-Tribune: Unhappy residents push repair of Andover Street rail crossing

  • dan051967 · 1 year ago
That crossing on Andover Street has been like that as long as I can remember and it continues to get only worse. It is not the city's responsibility to get it fixed - the rail companies (Guilford, MBTA, Amtrak & Pan Am) are responsible for the crossing. The City of Lawrence after being blow off by the rail companies should now be looking for assistance from the State so that someone on Beacon Hill can put more pressure on the rail companies to fix the problems and if the rail companies fail to comply, the State should have the right to impose hefty fines on the rail companies for failing to respond to and repair an obvious public safety problem.

Finally someone is going to look at these tracks. i live in the neighborhood and the tracks are only getting worse. pan Am needs to be pushed and pushed hard to take care of their property. This is a public safety issue that needs to be addressed.

Wait..Wait..Wait.. Mayor Sullivan..Sweeney absolutely no pull.. I drive over the Railroad tracks thru andover to go to work and about 3 - 4 mths ago a pot hole formed. THE NEXT DAY THE HOLE WAS FIXED.. ?? WHY CAN ANDOVER GET IT FIXED THE NEXT DAY. EVRYONE KNOWS THE ANSWER.. JUST LIKE WHY THE GRASS IS ALWAYS CUT IN THE BALLFIELDS OF ANDOVER AND LAWRENCE IS A MESS.. BECAUSE THERE IS ACCOUNTABILITY AND THEY CARD ABOUT THERE JOBS.. end of discussion...

It's easy to see what the problem is in Lawrence. Nobody is in charge, nobody is accountable.
One week the Planning Director gives all the quotes, another week the Economic Devel. Director gives the quotes, another week the Council President gives the quotes, next week the janitor will be the city spokesperson.
It's a perpetual three card monte shell game.

The tracks are an accident waiting to happen. Someone has to get serious about this situation. I look at those tracks and wonder to myself how does a train make it through that mess with all of the tracks broken apart. Come on Lawrence smarten up do something and try to take some pride in your City.

These tracks have been needing repair for at least the last 15 years. A friend of mine got a flat going over those tracks 15 years ago and the only look worse.

isnt this the same place the trained derailed and leaked som toxic powder everywhere
  • Stay Away · 1 year ago
yup one and the same, and you wonder why? see how little anyone cares. that was not some toxic powder, that was some really bad stuff that explodes when contacted by water, but it was played down to keep residents calm. how many times were the firefighters there putting out fires after the initial spill? check into hazmat coding on transport vehicles and you would be surprised what is allowed to be transported through neighborhoods, when you know how to read the codes on the containers. some really bad stuff goes through Lawrence and surrounding towns, especially on the tracks, cuz they're run thru the feds not the state. educate yourself (not to demean), and the answers are scary

movink.. Once again typical Lawrence attitude, "put it on somebody else". Answer the question, "WHY DO OTHER TOWNS GET IT DONE AND LAWRENCE CANNOT".

It is not easy getting things done my the MBTA they are the lazy jerks that steal our tax dollers and do little work because they are backed by the unions.these tracks belong to the MBTA not Lawrence just like the highways they dont belong to Lawrence they belong to Mass highways you just cant fix them its there responsability. call your moron of a govenor devil pickyourpocket or your city councler and have them put the issue on the table, you will get feed back in one to two years. that is big government for you.
