The Eagle-Tribune: Proposed dress-code changes could allow shorts at Lawrence High; Laboy asks why he wasn't consulted

What - Mr. Reyes didn't consult Dr. Dictator? Good job Mr. Reyes finally somebody from LPS is asking the students for their opinion.

I am not a fan of the Super but this is the problem with the Lawrence Public Schools. There is no such thing as policies or protocols that lead to expectations of students and parents. Principals and teachers took a hard stand with the uniform policy as well as attendance at the beginning of last year and the kids began to respond. They began to understand that they are there to get educated. They NEEDED this structure and expectations. Then it began to happen. A parent complaining then another, then an article in the paper and people became afraid to get fired and things unraveled. Make a policy and please stick with it! It is the same with parenting and unfortunately the Lawrence Public Schools have to parent these kids because they are not getting it anywhere else.

Reyes offended the control freak with common sense and respect for the students.

Hmmm... Reyes suggests that the school community police itself and reap benefits if successful.

If the students enforce the dress code themselves, can the adult community follow suit and root out the criminals in their midst?

Imagine the good will Lawrence would engender from the entire Valley, if the PEOPLE cleaned up with the police and government are impotent to clean up.

Here we go, next thing you know, they'll be allowed to wear whatever they want & the so called "uniforms" will be gone. The parents and the students are fully aware of the dress code prior to admissions, so what's the big deal? I agree with the superintendent and that the uniforms should remain as is. Just go to school and do your work.

So how does the Trib let Morris get away with saying they got everyone's input when they didn't consult the administration? Consistent is correct, this is the problem with Lawrence. When everyone is in charge, then no one is in charge. What is the sense of having a uniform policy that is routinely changed to eliminate the need to wear a uniform? As usual, Lawrence beggars the imagination.

I guess I always figured that the dress code at Lawrence High included striped suits with numbers on them...

    Booty shorts galore!

I think having unifroms is great, but we do need to understand that our kids deserve a break every once in a whuile. I don't see why anyone would think that changing the dress code a bit would be bad for the school. As it is, welfare parents get money to buy their kids their uniforms while working parents get no help from the Commonwealth. Why should grades 1 through 8 be allowed to wear shorts and not the High School Kids

I agree with Mr. Reyes; when this uniform policy was set up they didn't take into account shorts, sweaters, sweatshirts or shoes. A little bit of variety in pants or shoes is nice; it doesn't mean they will disregard the policy all together. Mr Laboy needs to approve these changes and give the kids some credit for following the rules. These kids all do follow the policy; I see them going into the building every day and they look great. There are no "booty shorts" ; you must be looking at Andover or Methuen HS...been there lately? The clothes some of those kids wear is bordering on indecent!

What? A decision that Wilfredo T. Labot was not invoved with ? Shocking- truly shocking. This person gives new meaning to the term 'micromanaging.'

He would not know if a policy was installed as that he never goes into the schools.

Laboy wanted a pay-off.Corrupt piece of trash

The memo was written in English therefore Laboy wouldn't have been able to read it.

"An outrage!!!" bellowed The King, "why wasnt I axed",he cried.
Probably because they could not find him.
If he is not at Orzo's or Li Chen enjoying a sumptuous feast with his Lemmings, he may be in residence at the hacienda on Howe St.
Or perhaps jetting off on another junket to China, Egypt or even Bongo Congo.

Laboy is an idiot. It is not about children but only about him. When will Lawrence wake up and realize you we are being taken to the cleaners (bank) by laboy.

The introduction of shorts to a school uniform for high school students is asinine. The reason why K-8 gets to wear them, is that they are kids. In high school, one is prepped to be in an adult world, where professionalism and other values will be expected from these young ladies and gentlemen. Don't confuse the issues with comparing the high school students to lower schools kids. Structure in education is NOT there to have the students have an input on what they want. They are there to learn what they need and not just get what they like. That defeats the purpose of education, structure and values. - Sammy, wake up. This is not a popularity contest for the school committee with the students. Give 'em an inch, they will take a mile at some point. Guaranteed. - If 50 to 60 kids are already suspended under current policy, this will only get worse when things are loosened.

Again the lps makes news. So what it the good doctor was not informed, i guess him and his driver in the SUV were not available. Just a thought why does he need a SUV and driver, when the fire and police chief do just fine driving them selves in a regular car. How about the worry about test scores and crime on campus, not shorts.....
