The Eagle-Tribune: Many of Manny's local countrymen riled by trade of Red Sox slugger

  • DD · 1 year ago
Manny is the one who wanted to leave!! HE made it difficult for everyone on the team. $$ and power went to Manny's head. I loved him as a player, but I always said he is too arrogant for his own good. For the amount of $$ he was being paid, he should have shut his mouth and played like he was paid to!!
  • vigilante · 1 year ago
I hope Jason Bay hits one long and gone tonight and everything Manny will be forgotten and forgiven.

Manny is lazy, disruptive, overpaid, abusive and his numbers are on the decline.--I can see why the Dominican community is going to miss him.
  • camper · 1 year ago
actually his numbers are pretty good
  • The Truth · 1 year ago
Manny is a player that will be missed by many fans locally and nationally.

The urban community could especially relate to Manny and his habit of smoking marijuana.
  • bertcj1002 · 1 year ago
Yep,they also could relate to being disrespectful and selfish, and wanting more without trying.Bay is younger, hungrier, cheaper, and has better numbers at this point of their careers.
  • ohoh · 1 year ago
Gee how can you blame Manny for wanting something for nothing, Oh it's the heritage :)
  • ohoh · 1 year ago
Maybe they will follow him to the west coast? Get the boats ready.

boats to the west coast...MORON! Take your boat back to the east....ha!

what ever it was later you bum this team and the fans have seen enough of you sorry butt than they deserved too
hopefully next year hes playing for 8 or 9 million in stead of 20
who can look at what hes done here in boston and say yea thats the guy we need look the sox are paying 7 million to trade him
just to get rid of this cancer
  • MannyaYankee · 1 year ago
He will not be on the west coast that long...Manny will be in pinstripes for the start of next season...
  • dan051967 · 1 year ago
The Yankees don't want Manny so I doubt you will see him in NY next season.

I'm not going to miss Manny - to be honest I got a little sick of the whole "Manny being Manny" thing. Although I will say that he was a good player while in Boston and I appreciate his efforts and I wish him luck in his future endeavours.
  • Barack HUSSEIN Obama · 1 year ago
The Yankees and Manny are polar opposites. The Yankees are the maintain the utlimate profession attitfude in pro sports. Manny couldn't be further from a professional. Manny is too selfish as well.

NOTE: I am a die hard Sox fan, so typing that stuff about the Yankees wasn't easy. :)

  • Buford T. Justice · 1 year ago
Manny won't go to the Yankee's becuse he won't cut his dreads off. He'll say they don't deserve him if he has to get a haircut. He's ENTITLED to have long hair.

  • Glad He's Gone · 1 year ago
Goodbye, au revoir, sayonara, adios! He may be a great hitter, but who needs that attitude. Some great role model for the kids who idolize baseball "heroes"...just "Manny being Manny"! He has complained and wanted to leave for years. He makes $20 million per year and thinks that makes him better than the rest of us, and got away with more than most players would. We heard the same "they cannot do it without him" talk after Nomar and Pedro were traded...and the Sox did do it without them,....and they will again. I for one am glad he is gone, and I hope he does go to the Yankees...it will give me another good reason to boo them, and they will probably make him cut his hair.

    VAYA CON DIOS....MY DUMMY.
  • EG · 1 year ago
Manny was and still is a great hitter period. When it is all said and done he will be one of the greatest hitters the game has ever seen. The guy is clutch in playoffs and when he really wants to play he does, the times that he wasnt running on balls or playing crappy defense was just because he didnt want to be here. But I get the sense that as soon as Theo and the other front office guys came into the picture he just wanted out right away.

The Sox put him on waivers and no team wanted him because of his contract. I dont expect Manny to make 20 million next year, but if he wouldve kept his mouth shut and just played ball, just maybe, Boston would've picked up his option. Boston's lineup and its fans will miss Manny's bat and his clutch performances in the playoffs. I wish him the best of luck but I'm not that dissapointed to see him go, the time was going to come sooner or later.
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
EG: Manny in his day put up Hall of Fame numbers, but you even said above that he only plays when he wants to play. Would you still be employed if you only worked when you felt like it and told your boss that he doesn't deserve you?
  • EG · 1 year ago
I agree with "Glad He's Gone"

Manny is a cancer in the clubhouse, there were reports that teamates would try to cheer him up from time to time and would just outrage and say, "Leave me alone, I dont care, I dont want to be here anymore." When I hear that I'm not sad to see him go, plus I was expecting it some day just because we know Theo never wanted him in the first place. But the sox should have recieved more out of the deal. Shame on the SoX!!

I just wish the Red Sox lose from now on. Another 80 years? Ha haha. That'd be awesome. While he was giving you home runs he was the best, now he's a bum and this and that. Let's see when big papi leaves what you as*holes are going to say. YOU WILL LOSE and I'm going to watch every game hoping that they lose and never again win another ring.

Talking about Dominicans!!!! Aint no one lazier than all of you. Look how you're sitting in front of the computer talking crap everyday. Same people always, get a life and a job.

He didn't like the team, so what? he has every right to not like it and leave if he feels like it. PUNKSSSS!!!!
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
This may be a foreign concept to you, but Manny had this thing called a baseball contract--which is a binding employment agreement to play baseball not act like an ignorant savage. He was committed to play hard every day for himself, the fans, and his teammates. He didn't honor that commitment, now he's gone.

The Sox now have Jason Bay, who at 29 has more upside than Manny currently has at his claimed age of 36--which in Dominican years is more like 47.
  • Unbelievable · 1 year ago
Stop whining, he's not the first one to do this and certainly won't be the last. Hate all you want. He's still earning the money you bunch of losers won't, regardless of the amount.

Be sure to count yourself in with the rest of us "losers" because we all know you're not making that amount of money either.

Besides - we're not whining about Manny, we're actually rejoicing in his departing the Red Sox. We'll be getting a younger, more energetic player in Jason Bay whose overall record is comparable to Manny's.

  • Unbelievable · 1 year ago
Even if he was born in DR, he's still an American. Get it? Why? Cause DR is part of the Americas!!
  • dan051967 · 1 year ago
So you are going on the definition from the Spanis Language Distionary's definition. Understandable and I see your point but unfortunately I do not use that dictionary nor have I ever so my terminology - here in the United States where last I checked English is the official language - of an American is one who is a citizen of the United States, just as your Spanish Language Dictionary also notes. So it looks like that you and I are both correct. Shall we consider this as a stalemate?
  • Unbelievable · 1 year ago
Yeah, I'm sick of arguing about this. Let's get back to Manny, shall we? : )
  • dan051967 · 1 year ago
Sure thing. I've got to admit though... that was a pretty good little "argument" we had going there : )

I still think the Red Sox will be better off without Manny around though. You have to admit, some of his antics and "injuries" did cause a few problems in the clubhouse.
  • dan051967 · 1 year ago
OK smart guy... if you look at my explanation you will see that yes I do note that while in the proximity of the AMERICAS - yes North America and South America - the fact that they live in the AMERICAS does NOT make them American! That was your initial statement you twit... go back and look at what you posted.

The definition of an American is somone of citizenship within the United States, NOT within one of the America continents or its islands!

Get your facts straight before criticizing me, OK?
  • dan051967 · 1 year ago
Apparently you're not very good at geography. The Dominican Republic is just southwest of Cuba, on an island that it shares with Haiti. Granted, the islands where Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic are located are within close proximity of the Americas, that does not make their people American citizens. If this were true then I guess all of those Cubans are Americans too.
  • portajuan · 1 year ago
No, Dominican Republic is the country, United States is the counrty, He grew up in Brooklyn New York 11201. I'm as Dominican as he is. We both grew up in the United State of America.
  • Unbelievable · 1 year ago
I'm sorry to call you this, but "what a big dumba*s you are" Cuba, DR, Haiti, PR and other are part of the North America. Ohh damn wait I think I'm going to have to get that for you. Wait right there! Because I think you're not going to comprehend if I write it down. A little slow today?

North America is a continent [2] in the Earth's northern hemisphere and (chiefly) western hemisphere. It is bordered on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the east by the North Atlantic Ocean, on the southeast by the Caribbean Sea, and on the south and west by the North Pacific Ocean; South America lies to the southeast. It covers an area of about 24,709,000 square kilometers (9,540,000 sq mi), about 4.8% of the planet's surface or about 16.5% of its land area. As of July 2007, its population was estimated at nearly 524 million people. It is the third-largest continent in area, following Asia and Africa, and is fourth in population after Asia, Africa, and Europe. North America and South America are collectively known as the Americas.

    North America - Antigua and Barbuda / The Bahamas / Barbados /Belize /Canada /Costa Rica /Cuba /Dominica /Dominican Republic /El Salvador /Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat) /Grenada Guatemala /Haiti /Honduras /Jamaica /Mexico Nicaragua /Panama /Saint Kitts and Nevis /Saint Lucia /Saint Vincent and the Grenadines / Trinidad and Tobago / United States of America
I'm not talking about US citizens and neither did you in your previous post. You wrote about Americas, which is anyone from North America, Central America or South America. Any of the Americas..
  • Unbelievable · 1 year ago
Yo make no sense whatsoever! Whether usage of America or the Americas is preferred, American is a self-referential term for many people living in the Americas.
Latin Americans consider everyone in the Americas to be americanos. Use of the word to refer specifically to U.S. citizens may be seen as ignorant, arrogant, incorrect, or even self-serving depending on the context. The same sentiments may apply to the use of the word American in English.
The Diccionario de la Lengua Española (Dictionary of the Spanish Language) published by the Real Academia Española (Royal Spanish Academy), defines estadounidense (United Stater) as "someone or something from or relating to the United States". This is by far the most common way for Spaniards to refer to U.S. nationals. People originating from, or who have lived in, the Western Hemisphere may be called americanos.

But the use of americano to refer exclusively to inhabitants of the United States should be avoided; this corrupt use is due to the fact that U.S. citizens often shorten the name to América (in English, without an accent mark) to refer to their country. One should not forget América is the name of the entire continent and all who inhabit it are Americans.

To all you "DIE HARD" sox fans talking ish about Dominicans, it would most likely be 90 years and counting without winning the World Series had it not been for the abilities of Dominicans David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez, and Manny Ramirez.

To those that say Manny is lazy? Those around baseball say quite the opposite. He's got a great work ethic when it comes to working on his swing and hitting. Running hard down to first base... well...no defense for that one.

See, what people tend to forget.. becuase they are clouded by the "current news"... is this... take a look at the yankees.. how many all-stars and hall a fame bound players can u have on one team, and still be in third place... boston is a team of players, not superstars, thats how we won our first two championships of the 21st century, if any of you remember, manny did nothing in the 2007 world series, it was ellsbury, pedrioa, and mike lowell.. along with our pitching... his batting average went from .409 in the LCS to .250 in the WS... got no HRs, Triples, and only 1 double... a total of 4 hits.. hes lucky it was only 4 games.. thats only an example of why we can go without him.. one player does not make the difference in a team... thats why there is no I in it... look at how well we did without ortiz, manny actually picked the team up for a while, then pedrioa, and then youkilis... we are a capable playoff team of going far... we need to pick it up, get oveer it, and welcome jason bay.. I am not a manny fan, i am a red sox fan.. i dont care who leaves here or who goes.. if you are not loyal.. i have no sympathy for you, but best of luck... i loved manny for his efforts and numbers, but i will not forget his attitude and what he did to the redsox in 2007.. it was unprofessional, uncalled for, and if you were to do that in your own profession, you'd be gone in a heartbeat... everybody is replaceable, and we will find our next manny someday.. if it isnt already here(bay).. you dont need to be hall of fame to put up numbers.. 2004 and 2007 proves that
  • ryan · 1 year ago
and by the way unbelievable, if we are so unloyal, we is it that yankee stadium hasnt been sold out in well over 2 months... infact i see alot of spaces this year... haha we are setting the record of most sold out ball games ever.. we are almost there... not even 60 games left... so nice try their buddy... your yankees arent even close to that... that alone tells me where the yankee fans are at... and not for anything, your owners through out one of the greatest managers EVER.. and a year later his team is fighting for the playoffs... smooth move morons.. money clouds the thoughts of successful choices, ive said it since they last won the world series, they wont ever win again till they get rid of the steinbrenners, and its held true so far lmao...

The Facts are The Facts here people wether you are Dominican or American it does not matter ,What matters most is that when you sign a contract you are supposed to honor that contract and not go back on your word. Manny didn't just not honor his contract he let the fans down and his team mates down. I don't care what nationality he is he was paid very well to play a childs game. And all he cared about was himself. And whatever you say about David Ortiz leaving is all a bunch of crap ,David enjoys being in Boston and he himself was sick of Manny being Manny and haveing to answer for him. David even told Manny we need you man don't give up on us ,And what does Manny do he gives up 1-2-3 Strikes you're out by Mariano Rivera as he lets the bat sit on his shoulder and then he says my knees hurt and sits out all part of his childish games he plays when he doesn't get his way. It's like a kid says when he doesn't get his way he will take his ball and go home boo hoo Manny Enjoy LA LA Land.

PS Red Sox Won On A Jason Bay Triple,And The LA Dodges Lost On A Ground Out By Manny To Shortstop On A 6 4 3 Play.

Last night , Jason Bay got both runs, he hit a 3 base shot which allowed him to get the winning run when a single was hit
the red sox are winning in the 8 th inning right now with a score of 12 to 2, jason bay hit a 3 run homer in the FIRST inning
youkalis has hit 2 HR's in tonight's game
Still think we are going to Miss the Manny ? I think not .
When Clemens left, the naysayers were sure we would never ever win anything, Personally i happy to see that crybaby leave,
same thing with Nomar ( who names their kid by reversing the letters in their own name, Really ) and with pedro,
but is seem to me that since all these primadonnas have left , the sox have won 2 world series
do i miss any of them , not on your life and I won't miss manny either.

I always liked Manny, but when he bailed out the day his most ardent supporter, Big Papi, came back that was it for me. Regardless of your feelings for management you never desert those you go into battle with.

It's always interesting for me to read comments on news articles relating to hispanics. There always seems to be a bunch of racist pricks writing comments that have nothing to do with the real topic being discussed. How dissapointing is it to live in Maine and find more racism in a state like Mass. which was created by people who came to this country as immigrants who couldn't speak english. Seriously folks, let's stick to the topic here. Manny Ramirez is a great ball player and like all employers Boston isn't willing to pay what he's worth, so like many employees,he is leaving to find a better paying job. Who wouldn't do that if given the chance?

Mourn Manny's leaving?? You have got to be kidding. They guy had it made, but his pompous attitude, lack of drive, laziness, and sense of entitlement have done him in! The Red Sox managment tolerated his stupidity for long enough...too long if you ask me!
It really says something when all but one of his teammates wanted him gone. LA deserves him. Bring on the dedicated, hard-working ballplayers who work hard every day...without expecting praise from "above". Guys like Lowell, Big Papi, Pedroia, Youklis, Varitek, and now.....Bay!
    Good Riddance!

If Manny is playing for an American team, then aren't his countrymen Americans?
