The Eagle-Tribune: Letter: As Earth cools, global warmists get desperate

  • fierisq · 2 months ago
Mr. Gilmore it is unfortunate to see that you have fallen prey like so many others to the strategic media manipulation that has taken place regarding climate change.

The "science" behind those who deny climate change is the same as the "science" that was behind the tobacco industry’s attempts to show that smoking had no negative effects on human health. Tobacco companies paid scientists and consultants to argue that there was no sound scientific evidence that secondhand smoke was dangerous even though they knew of the negative health effects. Fossil fuel industries are using the same uncertainty tactic to challenge the science of global warning as the tobacco industries used to confuse the cancer/smoking link debate.

There is absolutely a scientific consensus that climate change is occurring http://bit.ly/cdzos. No one in the climate science community is debating whether changes in CO2 alter the greenhouse effect, or if ocean levels have risen the last 100 years, or if the warming trend is outside the range of natural variability. GISS, NOAA, NAS, SOCC, RS, AGU, AIP, NCAR, AMS, CMOS are all respected institutions specializing in climate, atmospheric, oceanic and earth sciences and have published the same conclusions. 1) our climate is warming 2) the major cause of this warming is the rising levels of CO2 3) the rise in CO2 is due to the burning of fossil fuels 4) if CO2 continues to rise, so will the warming and 5) the climate changes projected will endanger the environmental and threaten human life.

Also, just as an FYI, a single year of cold or warm weather in one region of the globe is not an indication of a trend in the global climate, which refers to a long-term average over the entire planet. Climate skeptics such as yourself may argue that certain pockets of the country have experienced some colder winters here and there, but a brief regional trend does not discount a longer global phenomenon. Measurements show that over the last century the Earth’s climate has warmed overall, in all seasons, and in most regions.

Mr. Gilmore you have no degree in climate science and are not currently conducting climate research. Do you really think that people are going to believe some LtE contributor who has no background or degree in science, over the thousands of scientists from across the globe who have contributed studies and findings to the IPCC based on the most up to date scientific, technical and socio-economic information from around the world?

I take offense when people intentionally misinform others and attempt to discredit the very well established and agreed upon effects of human activity on global climate. I urge Congress to look beyond the cherry-picked reports and numbers that are cited by skeptics such as Mr. Gilmore to support a desired point. The truth is, the most respected scientific bodies have stated unequivocally that global warming is occurring, and that people are causing it by burning fossil fuels and cutting down our forests.

You neglected to mention cow flattulence....I hear that's a big contributor, too....
Can we tax them? Maybe Willie and John Cougar can do another Farm Aid to help offset the "cap & trade" tax dairy farmers will be burdened with....
Personally, I think the soy industry published that propaganda....
(please note, my comment was strictly tongue in cheek)

CO2 emissions are bad....no question about it, but I think we're getting a little ahead of ourselves here if we think man-made CO2 is a significant cause of rising levels. The oceans are our best air filters.
And, while the skeptics might make some absurd comment crediting a cold snap in New England as evidence global warming doesn't exist, I truly believe the extremists, who are profiting handsomely off "climate change", are grossly underestimating the size and scope of our atmosphere, and earth, when they think 20,000 smokestacks can affect our global climate. Just my opinion after looking at calculations of metric tonage of atmosphere, flora, oceans and comparing it to the metric tonage of CO2 emitted.
  • PastBlast · 2 months ago
If there was another farm aid wouldn't it be to offset the "crap & trade"?

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

    Alright! Good post!
  • rpmtohz · 2 months ago
Why is there scientist stating that is climate change is by natural causes and no one disputing it? The last couple of paragraphs on this link is exactly why there is controversy. The worst one is saying that we have to do something even if it is not happening. Interesting site. While it supports claims about climate change then at the end it says they are not sure. While everyone keeps claiming it IS happening the report does not support it. I still say find better research is needed before we panic and cause financial ruin.

Global warming has been offically declared dead. As is goverment run health care,Socialism,Obamaism, and people thinking libs have any sort of thought process.
  • MassMiddleMan · 2 months ago
By whom - do you have a link - do you have anything concrete - or is it your profound knowledge you are sharing - like this one from you:
Agreed...it is getting colder. Global cooling is underway!

    or maybe this gem:
Liberals are not true Americans.....not a lie at all. People like Obama...now that's a lie

    Or this fact-fill post:
    Now only Americans hate Obama.

Little one-liners that are often over the top and offer no content - nothing to debate - just little slams at people....I am happy to have a debate and listen to both sides - but really....that comment was really meant to be taken seriously???

Mr. Gilmore, you're wanted in Nashville for a face-to-face meeting with the Gore-a-cle in his 10,000 sq ft Belle Meade mansion ($2000/mo electric bill).

When was the last time we had a Blizzard Of 78 like Snowstorm????

Just because it is snowing in your back yard doesn't mean thats how the rest of the world is ... typical closed minded attitudes though and you wouldn't expect less ... Climate Change is like God Some believe it some don't and the rest of us don't care.

So for those of you who say Global Warming is a joke

I say God and Religion are a joke

and Ill apply your theories to that .. Just because Someone wrote about it doesn't mean its true their are plenty of Scientist out there that say God isn't real and look what happens to them ...

Already below there are two links that dispute the data used in this sound off. In the end, I will say this: there are ligitimate scientists who disagree - but they are in the minority. Is that to say they aren't right - could be - but, if they are wrong - by the time they are proved wrong - irreversalbe damage could be done to our environment.
Global warming is not just about local temperatures - and those people who keep refering to snow in oct and thermostats are ignoring the CLIMATE CHANGE - not the temperature change. More severe storms, changes in seasonal expectations globally - not just locally. My point is this - there is evidence on this planet that changes are occuring - and evidence to suggest it is man-made. There is more evidence for - than against - so I am not ignoring the other side. Proceeding with caution and planning to do something about it only makes sense.
Why do people get flu shots - when not everyone gets the flu. Precautions for the worst case. why wouldn't we do that with the thing that provides life to us!?

"The AP sent expert statisticians NOAA's year-to-year ground temperature changes over 130 years and the 30 years of satellite-measured temperatures preferred by skeptics and gathered by scientists at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Statisticians who analyzed the data found a distinct decades-long upward trend in the numbers, but could not find a significant drop in the past 10 years in either data set. The ups and downs during the last decade repeat random variability in data as far back as 1880.

Saying there's a downward trend since 1998 is not scientifically legitimate, said David Peterson, a retired Duke University statistics professor and one of those analyzing the numbers.

Identifying a downward trend is a case of "people coming at the data with preconceived notions," said Peterson, author of the book "Why Did They Do That? An Introduction to Forensic Decision Analysis."

It's over. There will be no cap and tax policy, and it's a foregone conclusion, except to the radical left, that GW is a dead issue. In a few years, you guys will be trying to put a stop to global cooling with more taxes and programs.
  • Carrot · 2 months ago
So what were those science classes you failed again? Was it chemistry or environmental studies? I'm asking because it doesn't take a lot of education to understand that dumping greenhouse gases into the air is bound to cause something to happen (see: planet Venus), that looking back over the past ten years is the equivalent of saying that a life-long alcoholic isn't a drunk because he's been sober for two weeks, that there's a big difference between climate and weather, or that a cold day in June doesn't mean that global warming isn't happening? Which one are you failing to understand?

You also don't seem to understand that science and math *aren't political*. Just because Glenn Beck insists that 2+2=5 doesn't mean it's true...but it might mean that somebody or some group has decided to prey on your general ignorance regarding science and math.
  • seealotofthings2 · 2 months ago
Oh Oh It's Gore's other relative doing the "You're wrong thing again and I know better" It's probably the RedSox guy using another id because the carrot head sounds just like him LOL Wow I guess you didn't notice that Venus is alot closer to the sun than we are which to my understanding would make it much hotter than earth just like Mars is further away from the sun and I suppose that is why it is colder. LOL and you bring Beck into this hahaha and who is making this political? Sounds like you are to me. I only bring in Gore because he stands to make millions out of all of this BS while at the same time screwing all the people that can't afford to pay their energy bills as they are now but with his proposals the cost of energy will skyrocket.
  • Tennis · 2 months ago
Venus is hotter because it's atmosphere is very think and dominated by greenhouse gases that trap more heat, Mars is colder because it has a very thin atmosphere and no greenhouse gases. Proximity to the Sun means little unless you're extremely close, like Mercury of very far away, like the gas giants.

Without Greenhouse gases, the Earth would be a frozen mass, unable to support sophisticated life forms.
  • seealotofthings2 · 2 months ago
Hmm So that means Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, and Jupiter are colder because it isn't so far away from the sun? LOL What a dope you prove to be. Haha To quote you " Venus is hotter because it's atmosphere is very think" THINK? Maybe all you Al Gore wannabes are thinking out of Uranus. LOL It's looking that way more and more.

I'm getting so tired of this one. Any other global "warmists" want to chime in on this one?

The claims made in this letter about NASA are totally unfounded or based on a micro-trend, I don't know. Here is the current NASA website on climate change:

    http://climate.nasa.gov/evidence/

Either NASA hasn't updated its site, or Mr. Gilmore has just made stuff up.

Global-warming deniers are the politically motivated group. Their propaganda is always pushed by conservative think-tanks.

In the November 12 issue of Rolling Stone there’s an article, “Warming Gets Worse,” by Jeff Goodell. Interesting reading to say the least.

    From the article:

"The world’s leading scientists have come to an alarming conclusion: Global warming is happening even faster than they thought. The Arctic, it turns out, is melting so quickly that even top ice experts are stunned.

The melting Arctic is a ticking time bomb for the Earth’s climate – and thanks to our failure to reduce greenhouse-gas pollution, the fuse has already been lit.

The Arctic is more than just a frozen block of ice – it’s more like a frozen block of carbon... All told, there are some 1 trillion metric tons of carbon buried in the Arctic – the equivalent of the oil, gas and coal reserves on the entire planet. From a planetary perspective, melting the Arctic is like firing up the world’s largest furnace – one that will belch catastrophic levels of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

But that’s not the worst of it. A similarly huge amount of methane is frozen in the floor of the shallow seas surrounding the Arctic. As the water warms, these blocks of methane ice can bubble to the surface and release millions of tons of methane – more or less cooking the planet overnight."

Must be desperation since the ice is infact melting rapidly.

    Get your marshmallows ready.

They always screw things up for the rest of us with their facts and theories. We should just ban thinking altogether. However, you do bring an interesting issue into the discussion here, and the folks that are spouting about the constitution and bill of rights being trampled on (although I have yet to hear exactly how). How is it that the constitution that requires that all people be treated equally under the law, is not trampled on by not allowing gays and lesbians to marry? and then how do those defenders of the constitution (that they have probably read as often as their bible) justify this hypocracy?

Personally I say prove it one way or the other but stop the stupid political debate about it. We need indisputable answers because there is far to much at risk.
  • jmeister_1 · 2 months ago
I agree wholeheartedly. The problem is that science provides a means to an end for the politicians. I've got to play the Bush card here and say that his administration really screwed this stuff up. Thanks to his efforts there is lots of misinformation out there now.

I don't buy into this cooling thing. There are too many ice caps melting away and too many glaciers disappearing. Seems to me that they would not be going that way with cooling. When was the last time that the Merrimac froze over so that ice blocks could be cut out of it like back in the mill days?

BTW: I'm not related to Al Gore, I don't work for Obama, I'm not a scientist, and I have no issues. Thought I needed to get that out of the way to deal with the BS one liners that people seem to like posting here.

The name change from Global warming to climate change comes from the advance scientific techniques that they discover everyday. We are learning that it may be warming on the poles but cooling at the equator.

We don't know how or why yet, but thats what the scientists are working on. They know the earth's temprature moves in cycles. Thats why we have an ice age and then a periods of extreme heat.

I find it fascinating that we had an ice age but the equatorial area was +20 degrees over what is considered normal.

I never bought into the hysteria of people cause global warming, I am educated and have looked, albeit not extensively, at past data and periods of the earth and come to recognize that the earth is just like us we physically change from time to time.
  • rpmtohz · 2 months ago
That is the whole point of what I said. No side can say here is the facts without disagreement. Considering the Ice Age to now it is hard to say the earth is not warming. The real question is did our industrialization have a major affect. So far there is no definite answer but politicians play their game. If the scientific world can't agree with each other then why did we spend all the money?
  • Tennis · 2 months ago
But the scientists DO agree, that's the point.
  • rpmtohz · 2 months ago
Scientist do not agree. Man made or natural cause. They can't agree on the different types of gases claiming to create the problem.
  • Tennis · 2 months ago
    Where do get this from?
  • rpmtohz · 2 months ago
Read the site given by another poster. bit.ly/cdzos An interesting site that you would use to support your claim. However at the end the last few paragraphs tell the truth. They just don't know.
  • Tennis · 1 month ago
It's interesting that you cite Oreskes, the whole point of that study is that there IS a consensus. Did you actually read the whole thing? You cant cherry pick sentences out of research. You aren't just ignorant, you're delusional.
  • MassMiddleMan · 2 months ago
The problem is that too many are relying on local weather and phenomena - in addition, if you will look - very few who don't believe in global warming post nothing of evidence. Many are relying on celebrity personalities to get their information. I admit - I questioned it myself until I started doing my own self-education - looking at both sides and the evidence for, and the growing population of scientists who support it - is too great to ignore. As you said, by the time some of these people are convinced, it will be too late. I am not old enough, but I wonder if this is the same debate that went on when the evolution vs. creation arguments happened.
  • Conservative2TheCore · 2 months ago
Umm, you're not seriously using "ice blocks" on the Merrimack to justify global warming, are you? The Merrimack has numerous dams that regulate the flow and volume of water that travels down it.....which actually prevents the formation of ice. That's the point...otherwise Hooksett, NH would be a lake if ice formed in Lawrence or Manchester.
  • jmeister_1 · 2 months ago
You got your cow poop and I have my ice blocks.

I guess that my observation of the situation was flawed as is likely many of the reports that everyone is referring to.

Some say cooling and other say warming but is everyone looking at the situation the same way with the same knowledge?

There are observations to be made on the large scale like the ice caps and glaciers. Those cannot be mistaken by both sides.

I do like those old pictures of the men cutting out the blocks of ice from the Merrimac. That must have been quite the seen back then.
  • Conservative2TheCore · 2 months ago
I'd be careful witht he ice cap melting argument....remember, the White Mountains were carved from advancing ice, which melted long before Henry Ford fired up the assembly line for the Model-A.

  • Tennis · 2 months ago
There are NO "indisputable answers" to anything. In science, our understanding of the world is expressed in theories. In science, a theory is not a guess, its not "just" a theory. Gravity, evolution, viruses and bacteria causing illness, all theories. The arguments against climate change are all designed to sow doubt, confusion and fear but they are baseless. The certainty you seek is nearly impossible and by the time some people on this blog would be convinced, it would be far too late.
  • rpmtohz · 2 months ago
You are wrong. Gravity, evolution, viruses and bacteria are proven scientifically. At the beginning they were just theory but as science progressed scientist were able to prove these theories. Science has proven that over millions of years the earth has increased in temperature and right now there is no doubt among scientist about that. If you go by that alone then we have global warmng by natural causes. The fact is that scientist are speculating that the increase is by the CO2 made by man. But CO2 made by natural causes far exceed anything that man has done. And that has been proven. So your theory has no merit. There lies the problem. Is it man made or natural causes? When scientist can't agree on what damage man made causes has done then we walk around like a bunch of headless chickens. So instead we have meaning less political battles and a bunch of meaning less theories. So your meaning less argument for climate change us no different then the meaning less argument against it.

Why aren't you demanding better answers instead of just following some scientific theories? Why should everyone else who questions these theories?

It is just like the H1N1. There are more deaths from a typical flue season then the H1N1 but the government, AMA, CDC and media has eveyone in a panic over it.

Please look up the scientific meaning of "theory." A theory is the highest level of scientific understanding.
  • Conservative2TheCore · 2 months ago
Actually, after theory comes law...but there are actually few of those....People refer to the "Law of Gravity" which is wrong...it's actually still only a theory because in order to be a law, it has to be absolute.
  • skepsis22 · 2 months ago
    C2TC;
I'm confused, if law is absolute, why then do we only "practice" law rather than execute it?
  • Pandasthumb · 2 months ago
You are not completely incorrect, a theory is the highest level of scientific understanding possible.

Specifically, scientific laws must be simple, true, universal, and absolute. This tends to limit their application. For example: the rate at which on object accelerates
    when it falls.

Theory: A theory is more like a scientific law than a hypothesis. A theory is an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon proven hypotheses and verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers. One scientist cannot create a theory; he can only create a hypothesis.

Laws and facts are kind of boring. Theories give scientists the ability to conceptualize something.

Gravity is not theory. Gravity is calculated with equasions containing mass, rotational spin etc. They can calculate the gravity on the moon and other planets with the same equasion. But they can't figure out if CO2 is man made or natural causes? Of course if they state that it is natural causes then they will all look like fools because of the panic they have created.

There is no denying that there is a cooling trend right now. And mind you, it's a very strong cooling trend. Records are being broken on a daily basis world wide (www.iceagenow.com). It's this cooling that is making people stop in their tracks to say, "hmm, maybe the media is leading us on with GW." Media leading us on? What else is new?!?

There are thousands of professionals who believe the world is cooling and that we're not in iminent danger from worldwide catastrophe. Skeptics aren't denying an overall warming trend - they are mearly requesting more studying because the oh so great computer models have messed up already - and we're barely getting started. If they have messed up this early, how in the world can we rely on them to predict 50 to 100 years out? Crazy!

Read or listen to the 2 men noted here. Prof. Richard Linson, M.I.T. Meterologist and Lord Christopher Monckton, former advisor to British P.M. and a climate change expert.

You only have to give those 2 a chance and listen to their take on Global Warming. Unfortunately those that would rather believe Al Gore won't give any credit to any other voice on the subject. Gore gives no credability to any opposition and he refuses to answer or debat Lord Monckton least of all anyone who will challenge him. That is no different of Gore even when he was running for president. He avoided the real questions. A few years ago he spoke at a college here in Massachusetts and wouldn't allow news cameras or questions from the audience. Now there's a real politition. People are now disecting his movie of which he won an Academy Award and a Nobel Prize. They are finding flaws in the assertions. Global Warming? I had to turn up the heat in my home in early October when I usually start around this time of year.

How did it go from "Global warming" to "Climate Change"? Of course the climate will change....they are called "seasons" !
  • MassMiddleMan · 2 months ago
Climate change is used because people are confusing temperature with the overall phenomena. Climate change does not refer to seasonal changes - but changes in the overall climate of the earth - which are measurable and reported on. The majority of scientists agree that there is a change on-going and that man has contributed to this.
  • Conservative2TheCore · 2 months ago
Until there are thermometers covering every square mile of the surface of the earth, every fathom of the depth of the ocean and every few hundred feet of our atmosphere through the stratosphere, we'll never truly know the extent of climate change. A current might change, which causes water temps to rise/fall....a heat wave on a continent might be offset by a cold front off the coast, or lower atmosphere temps could vary widely from uppper atmosphere temps.
People point to glacial recession as an indicator of global warming, when in reality, the temperature 20,000 feet above that glacier might be much cooler than normal (thus, an offset)....or an area in the Sahara desert might actually be two degrees cooler that year....
how come nobody has suggested the core of the earth hasn't heated up???? I mean, considering the mass of the core is astronomically great, and less than 20 miles of dirt and rock separate us from it, why couldn't this be a factor??? Gas, like CO2, is a poor conductor of heat, so it's highly unlikely gas could warm a liquid like the ocean or even the continent....but molten metal over 10,000 degrees a few miles under the ground could...don't you think???
  • MassMiddleMan · 2 months ago
Have you seen the link to the nasa site? it is somewhere in this chain - - a very good site, as there are many from a previous discussion from a guy named Tennis.

I understand that there are alternate views - but the more i read and poke around the subject - the more convinced I am that it is real....I try to be fair and review both sides....and I admit that it is hard sometimes not going into something without an angle - but I do believe the evidence is there and that there should be a combined effort of nations to cut down on CO2 production.....
  • Conservative2TheCore · 2 months ago
    I'll look at it later....
But, I can't help thinking there's something greater than a gas causing icecaps to melt. Take an ice cube and put it in a 400 degree oven (where the air in the oven is 400 degrees)..then take a similarly sized ice cube and run it under 60 degree tap water....tell me which melts first....if you say the one subjected to warm air in the 400 degree oven, you'd be wrong...the 340 degree cooler water will melt the ice quicker because it's a better conductor of heat.
That's why I struggle with the idea that a fraction of a degree of atmospheric temperature rise is causing icecaps to melt.
  • MassMiddleMan · 2 months ago
It is an interesting concept.....I will have to ask some science friends about this - - do you have links to any sites that discusses this theory? Thinking out loud (which may not be a great way to think) - could the answer be that the poles are trapping more of the heat so that the global temp is a fraction - but at the caps it is worse? I don't know ..... It is an interesting thought about the ground issues (just saw an article on a split in the African continent that wil eventually (million years) be a new ocean - but the ground DID split!
  • skepsis22 · 2 months ago
    MMM;
Ask your science friends - since scientists have determined that our globe has picked up speed, albeit not a lot, could the additional friction (=heat) created play a factor?
  • MassMiddleMan · 2 months ago
This is interesting theory - but it doesn't explain the spike in CO2 measured by Nasa.....
  • skepsis22 · 2 months ago
    MMM;
Since the globe is covered by 75% water, the spike in CO2 is from the eutrophication occurring naturally in all bodies of water throughout the globe.
    Pytoplankton is the culprit.

  • Conservative2TheCore · 2 months ago
I don't have links to sites, but I've got a little background in conductive mediums, air or gas is definitely the least efficient.

P.S. Not that I care, but I'm curious how many people will stick an ice cube in their oven tonight... :-)
(just make sure you put it on a towel and put the towel on a sheetpan...otherwise, the conductive properties of the sheetpan (metal) will melt the ice.
  • MassMiddleMan · 2 months ago
LOL - good one! I am sure many will try- to be honest - if I wasn't buried with work stuff - I might have tried it myself!!
  • Tennis · 2 months ago
You simply don't understand how greenhouse gases work. They trap LongWave radiation and reflect it back to the earth. It has nothing to do with conducting heat. If Greenhouse Gasses are such poor "conductors" how can they keep the earth as warm as it is? Without them all of the heat built up by solar input during the day would bleed off into space, the earth would be frozen.
  • Conservative2TheCore · 2 months ago
What I'm saying is, raising the temperature of the atmosphere a fraction of a degree will NOT melt ice, especially not dense packed blue ice.

What proof that man has caused it? Scientist are arguing back and forth but no one has stated that it is from industrialization. Instead of risking our businesses and jobs on theory I would prefer to have more consistent evidence and agreement among the scientist. Sorry but theories just don't cut it when we risk so much. Then maybe it is the Democrats to start new "green" business since they ran our other business out of the country.

You want an envireomental change then try this one. We have 20% of the population on welfare, Government from local, state and fed employment over 40% who is paying the taxes? Do you think the American people can support more government, social programs and government supported jobs without more taxes? The healthcare bill, cap and trade and bailouts are looking like the democrats have found another income instead of just the taxpayer.

Excuse me, but it was not the DEM's that changed the way business has been run. That would be the repubs that changed tax code, and forced "Trade treaties". So that the corporates could go exploit workers and pollute at will in undeveloped and corrupt countries. The Chamber of Commerce contributes to these Repubs on such a scale that our elections process had the Dems with their hand just as deep into the cookie jar now as well. BUt you statements could have easily been taught to you by your bobbleheads spouting off on your opinion radio and TV that you somehow consider truth. If it is angry, it must be true. I am not the one forcing my values on you, you are. I am not the one stealing peoples money and calling it taxes for the "poor" people, you are. I am not the one asking our government to support "poor" people you are. You are a bunch of phonies who have no respect for what this country has stood for, for over 200 years. But your still arrogant enough to call your self an AMERICAN. You have no respect for our Constutition or Bill of Rights. You claim to live by a higher standard. Bunch of hypocrites.

By the way to prove my point. I said we need a more definitive answers to the Climate change before we financially destroy our country. You say we should just do what the Democrats want because we are right and everyone else is wrong.
  • rpmtohz · 2 months ago
Repuba-logic? Ask your self one question. Why is this a difference of left and right wings? For that very purpose people should be demanding better proof than having to take sides. This goes back to the 60s and 70s when the complaint about the smog in our cities. Even after all these years we still have the same problem. So after all the emission controls for our autos and industry it still exists. The government has put a financial burden on our companies, and the people that has done nothing to solve the problem.

You want to talk about renewable sources then look closely at the solutions th Democrats are forcing us to do. We will spend billions to provide a power source that is unreliable and inconsistent. What will the results be? Nothing but a waste of money.

It's the right and moral thing to do? By who's standards? Since when can you or the government tell me it is the right or moral thing to do? What makes you think "your" right and moral thing is better than mine? All it is is a bunch of arrogrant people think they are better than others. I don't care if it is Cap and Trade or the healthcare bill the democrats are trying to dictate their views on the people. The Democrats are violating our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

You may be one of the spineless spoiled brats that want "Big Brother" to hold your hand but I grew up in a free and independent society and prefer to keep it that way. I didn't work hard all my life to support low life on welfare or immigrants imported by democrats to be on welfare. I worked to provide for my family and a better life. All you idiots want to do is dig deeper in my wallet to provide for someone else. You have had too much of the socialist indoctrination of our education system.

So go ahead and bury your head back in the dirt while the Democrat party destroys the foundation of what this country was built on. If Capitalism is too difficult for you to live by than please feel free to move to a socialist country but leave AMERICA alone.

And good luck with that. Fact is, we pay the lowest per capita tax of any industrialized nation in the world. That bad part is that there are too many of you that want to pay even less...Your logic is really bad here...Have you thought about how many more vehicles there are now compared to the 60's? The increase in Greenhouse Gases are due to industrial activity. We know this because isosopes of CO2 and CH4 created by man made causes are different from naturally occurring CO2 and Methane. There is no debate on this. Also, despite the recent cooling caused by low solar output, the temperature trend is going in only one direction. The cost of doing nothing is far greater than the greatly exaggerated cost of cap and trade.
  • rpmtohz · 2 months ago
The fact that people are having these disagreements right now is proof that your views are not facts. I am tired of these discussions because they are going nowhere. Why because you might be proven wrong?
  • aymsley · 2 months ago
So using your Repub-logic, if two sides disagree then neither side has facts that are true? It isn't about the money. It is about the future and whether there is one. I don't understand why you would want to fight conservation. I don't understand the need for people like you to fight better & renewable energy. Of course it will cost us money. Just like providing health care will cost money. There is no argument from me there. But it is still the right and moral thing to do in both instances. Yeah, Tennis is so brilliant? Quote there is a difference between CO2 man made and CO2 natural made. They are the same gas. That is why it is nothing but BS.
  • MassMiddleMan · 2 months ago
I have recently learned that there are different isotopes in carbon....as I read the science - and I don't exactly have the numbers right - but between C12, C13 and C14 - scientists have measured the change in the makeup of the increased levels of carbon dioxide. They can therefore identify the ratios between naturally occurring CO2 and the CO2 created by man (burning fossil fuels, etc).....The ratios show that along with the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere - there is a decrease in the ratio of naturally occurring CO2 (spring to fall weather, etc) and that of man made - meaning that the man made carbon isotopes are increasing faster than those tied to naturally occurring phenomena
  • rpmtohz · 2 months ago
Wow what brilliance? Different CO2 gases. Just goes to prove you will believe some political paper spewing nonsense over facts. I am not even arguing about "climate change" but the fact but the fact we are panicking over inconclusive evidence the it is mand made. CO2 whether man made or but fossil fuels are the same thing. that is where the disagreement is between scientist. Again this is more about politics so the sheep will follow the party.

CO2 consist of atoms. 1 Carbon 2 oxygen. Whether it be man made or natural they are the same. Try looking it up. You might be able to fool other Dumbocrats but you still can't change the fact most of the CO2 is natural causes. Science may not be able to give us undisputable evidencce but it certainly can provide better answers then we have. The first thing that needs to be done is to take it out of the hands of college professors that their own livelyhood is depending on government grants. What would you have to lose? Finding out it is not true? What about the senator who stated that the EPA has proof that all our efforts will do next to nothing. I think before we destroy the remaining business we need bettr answers. Of course that is rational thinking. Something that has always eluded the Democrats.
  • Tennis · 2 months ago
the point in differentiating between "natural" and "man-made" is to illustrate that the increase in CO2 (and other greenhouse gases) is caused solely by man. Greenhouse gases haven't been at levels this high in about 800,000 years. Since greenhouse gases trap infrared radiation and reflect it back to earth, they keep the earth warm. The higher the concentrations, the more heat is trapped. It really is that simple. Climate change research has been going on for decades. people like you will never be satisfied with the amount of research. As for your demand that research be taken out of the hands of actual scientists, perhaps you should learn about peer-review.

And it's not magic, unlike your religious beliefs: it is a physical fact of life. Life does not begin at conception; it begins when the fetus is born and takes that first breath of air.

It's your right to believe what you want, but it's certainly not your right to impose your beliefs on others.

DaVinci conceptualized the combustible engine....yes, that evil device that we all rely on to get to work, soccer practice, Starbucks, and, heaven forbid, to the hospital in an emergency....guess he couldn't theorize the irreperable (sp?) damage it would do to the world.

Why do Conservatives hate America so much?
  • BufordPusser · 2 months ago
Mr. Lincoln, you yourself were a Republican.

I know it's been a while, but maybe you need to hit the Geritol.
  • A.Lincoln · 2 months ago
Pusser, Lincoln was the first/last true Republican - Liberal, for a strong Federal Government, pro-equal rights, pro-education, pro-industrial regulation, pro- fair-trade, pro-religious freedom, and pro-income tax. "Modern" Republicans might as well be called "Anti-Lincolnists". You're welcome for the history lesson, sonny.

Republicans were not always the party of white businessmen, bigots, and the intentionally ignorant. That has been a gradual shift over the last 30-50 years or so. The last one with a clue left office telling us what to beware of...We need more Ike's in the party of the stupid...
  • Jammer Man · 1 month ago
It's interesting how liberals think that anyone that disagrees with them are "Republicans." I have never had anything to do with the Republican party, yet think the liberal way of thinking is for the clueless. How does that make me a Republican?
  • stormwts1 · 2 months ago
It's you we hate as does America herself.
  • A.Lincoln · 2 months ago
We've heard your fearful crying before. Why do hate America so much? Too many blacks? Too many Jews? Too many schools? Not enough prison camps and gas chambers?
  • bertcj1 · 2 months ago
The Libs are the ones that hate everything America stands for. Capitalism, freedom of speech, individualism, and most of the constitution. It's been 145 yrs since we've had a civil war.Sounds like those limp-wrists are pushing for another.
  • Tennis · 2 months ago
"limp-wrists"??? Wow you really showed us..is that all you got moron?
  • MassMiddleMan · 2 months ago
Tennis - I must say - I thought you were above this....i know you are frustrated - being right and surrounded by those who do not care to learn - do not want to listen - simply want to walk around in their blissful ignorance ....ignore it....There are some on here who like to argue theories and facts and listen -- the rest - their just one-liner types because they are afraid of their wives or something...
  • Tennis · 2 months ago
massmiddleman - I digress...you are right, I'm just really fed up with these folks.
  • Jammer Man · 1 month ago
Then go away, Tennis ... because we're not leaving.
  • Conservative2TheCore · 2 months ago
if Libs love America so much, why do you want to "change" it? Isn't that what you voted for? Change?

We DID spend - and squander - billions of dollars "fighting" the supposed global cooling. Back then CFC's were the supposed culprit and millions of people lost their jobs when they were banned. Ooops. Maybe we should bring back CFC's.
  • Tennis · 2 months ago
We did what? CFCs were causing...cooling? Really?
  • michaellovesnyc · 1 month ago
    Global Cooling Article from Newsweek 1975 - EXPERTS ! - http://www.denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm
  • Tennis · 1 month ago
Interesting, and well known. This is an example of bad reporting, not bad science. There was no published research suggesting "global cooling" and the article contains a lot of speculation, not hard science. There was no consensus in the 70's claiming "global cooling" was happening. To compare this to the massive, overwhelming mountain of hard science and decades of research supporting current climate change theory is absurd and intellectually bankrupt.

Also, where is the support for your absurd claim that CFCs were cooling the planet and that we spent billions fighting global cooling or that "millions lost their jobs"? None of that happened.

YA ALL THIS "COOLING" IS why i can sail a ship between haliafax and nome in the summer
