The Eagle-Tribune: Lawrence School Committee preparing for Laboy deadline

  • dgt3 · 2 months ago
Actually Wilfredo has lost 46 pounds since the beginning of his taxpayer funded hegira from the LPS and is ready to come back and lead the new LPS under his fellow Latin and new mayor Willie Lantigua.

Both parties are thrilled beyond belief at the prospect of four more years at the helm; maybe even eight more years.
  • Alas · 2 months ago
Wilfredo's "fellow Latin" has already gone on record with his plans to compose a committee to oversee the recruitment of "a NEW" Supt. Your speculations are incorrect! It's a good thing nobody posts their actual names or risks their reputations on the misinformation and hate filled banter they spew on this blog. Unfortunately, this bologna (juvenile gossip and offensive racism) cost us a good man in the end.
  • dgt3 · 2 months ago
Oh really , now- Willie Lantigua after submitting not once, not twice not even three but four occasions bills to the Massachusetts legislature to allow Laboy the ability to transfer his years of service in New York to Massachusetts for the purpose of vesting Laboy in the Massachusetts pension system, ignore the fact Lantigua has refered to Laboy as a "...great superintendent...." and also ignore the fact Lantigua has yet to speak publicly on anything....

    come to your own conclusion...

Lasy what good man are you talking about?
  • Home_sick · 2 months ago
    Alas,

Forming a committee to oust Laboy and plant someone else in his place is a dangerous undertaking.

Announcing the plan interferes with Laboy’s right for due process of the law. Laboy is not a stupid man. His perception that a modern day lynching is taking place would be correct. Although Laboy’s position serves at the mayor’s pleasure, and can fire him at will, it is not a good idea to do so while a potential litigation charge is floating around. The City stands to lose a lot of money and making Laboy richer.

Are you sure that is what the mayor said? Or could it have been forming a committee to review the case and determine is here enough evidence to justify an action such as that?
  • Blueeye · 2 months ago
    Home_Sick,

You hit the nail on the head with some of your comment, however; you are incorrect about the the process of firing a Lawrence Superintendent. The Superintendent does not serve at the pleasure of the Mayor, he serves as a city employee governed by the School Committee. Sullivan, as mayor, serves as the Chair of the School Committee and though he holds some procedural oversight, the mayor's vote is counted equally amongst all of the Committee members. If the Committee does vote to terminate Laboy it will take a 2/3rds vote of the entire body.
  • Home_sick · 1 month ago
    Thanks,

Hopefully, the decision to discharge Laboy is done thoughtfully and not impulsive as a feel good action. I did a bit of searching on report cards for the Lawrence High School and found that 1 of 100 with 1 being the worst school, Lawrence High ranks 3rd. Their SAT’s you don’t want to know. It’s ugly.

That alone, is enough for any Mayor as chair to the school committee enough ammunition to demand nothing less than a discharge. Voting would be a matter of formality. Who in their right mind would oppose a discharge?

Great leaders lead, they don't hand ring and take no actions. If JFK acted like our elected school committee with respect to the Cuban Missle crisis the free world as we know it today might be very different and I mean in a bad way with Russia knocking at our back door. If Ronald Regan did not take a stance with Gobechev in Iceland the Cold War would not be over and the fears of Communist takeover and nuclear war would have been rampant.

These great leaders took calculated & educated chances, then again, I just answered my own dilemna, I said EDUCATED leaders. Nevermind, we have a bunch of NINCOMPOOPS on our school committee.
  • CitizenofLaw · 2 months ago
The time to talk is over, just terminate that fat bastard. Never mind hiring a new attorney, just pull the trigger and get it over with it. There is SUFFICIENT evidence found in his office (alcohol) and the printing press.

I know that fat bastard has an ironclad contract but there is no clause in his contract about ammunity if he breaks the law. Let that fat bastard file a law suit against the city, he doesn't have a legal leg to stand on. We don't need a high power attorney to tell us that either. At this point to get a attorney is a waste more time.

We have lost common sense in doing the right thing! This whole situation is very fustrating playing this waiting game. When Jim Scully was terminated there was no stupid 2 cent lawyer (Stonberg) brain washing the past school committee, they took a vote and terminated him. I've never heard of a more pathethic school committee than the current one. They are afraid to sneeze without asking permission!!

Why they believe any word of our pathetic mayor is beyond me, he was dumb in high school and he is still dumb. He led this school committee like a lost puppy dog and they just followed like a good little puppy. Grow up and let's take a bite out of crime.

    JUST DO IT.

Stop taliking about it AND JUST FIRE HIM......and when you take the vote........I'd have the COGNAC.........JAMESON IRISH WHISKEY......and all the other liquor bottles found in his office cabinet at the table in front of Mensa Mikey SUllivan..........use the visual-multi sensory approach!

    Mr Laboy,

    Your resignation is overdue.
    Submit it immediately!

    Booze...your out.
High points for marketing Lawrence HIGH SCHOOL does not outweigh the student populations educational priorities set forth by the state, parents, and taxpayers.
Rules and rights of others you flagrantly ignored.

Can legal action be taken against Mr Laboy personally? Can parents take Mr Laboy the former superintendent to court for denying the children of Lawrence a safe educational atmosphere?

The lack of reporting lawlessness in the Lawrence High School under Mr Laboy is going to come back to haunt YOU Mr Laboy.

Contractual obligations - They don't live in the real world. It's a world of false expectations and exhuberent benefits for little in return. Remember the "running boards " ? Enough said !!

How much vacation pay does this guy get? I'm lucky I get 2 weeks a year. I'd be more than happy to take 1/2 of what this guy gets in pay and would work just as hard if not harder.
  • Shadowen · 2 months ago
Captain Ahab is still making money off us for doing squat.. He needs to go harpoon his wife and get off the pay roll.

I totally agree with dano51967. Since Willie fought saw hard to actually change a Massachusetts law (4 times none the less) on Laboy's half, if this thing gets table, Laboy's back on the Job 01/03 until when is he vested ?? October 10 - what a flippin scam you ----fill in the blanks 0--- are all alike!
  • dan051967 · 2 months ago
Jeez, I wonder if Slick Willie will come to Laboy's rescue. I honestly think that it is a very good possibility - after all Slick Willie fought so hard for the Laboy Bill on Beacon Hill...

I can see it now: Come January, Slick Willie takes office. His first item on the agenda will to be to reinstate Wilfredo Laboy as Superintendant of the LPS. He will also return Laboy's SUV with the expensive, custom running boards and also give Laboy another "special assistant" (ahem - chauffeur). Yep, some guy from Boxford...
  • PastBlast · 2 months ago
It would be a big mistake firing Mr Laboy until a highly qualified attorney that specializes in labor law reviews everything and makes recommendations. Having Ms Stonberg giving advice is not protecting the taxpayers against a worngful termination suit.

Mr. Vittorioso, your comment of not being afraid to play guts poker cracks me up. You and the rest of the school committee have been playing poker with the education of the children for years and you have been losing.

Running like chickens with your heads cut off, is exactly what you have all been doing for years. You and the other committee members should be hanging your heads in shame over what has happened in the LPS. Instead you're making ridiculous statements and planning on taking action on something that will most likely come back and bite the city if not done correctly.

Apparently Laboy is actively looking for a new job. Check out his LinkedIN profile:

    http://www.linkedin.com/pub/wilfredo-laboy/15/5...

    He's looking for:
    Interested In:
Career opportunities, consulting offers, new ventures, job inquiries, expertise requests, business deals, reference requests, getting back in touch.
  • mamalion · 2 months ago
Any School Dept. or private consulting firm would be out of their minds if they even considered hiring Mr. Laboy for anything other than cleaning toilets!
I also can't imagine anyone in Lawrence giving him any type of glowing job references. Oops, sorry, I forgot about Mike Sullivan! Wouldn't it be just like him to stick it to Lawrence in one last act of defiance before he leaves office and Lawrence behind?
  • dgt3 · 2 months ago
At $50 per month it may be worth the money to see his 12 rumpswab connections.

By the way, is there anyone who doubts we, the taxpayers, are paying Laboy's $50 per month subscription.

Scotty will play you guys like a fiddle for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Why would a elected official have to move? Have him move. I would not want someone that is unethical and dishonest serving on the same table as someone who is not.
  • willmansfield · 2 months ago
Believe it or not, it is stipulated in Laboy's contract that Laboy sits next to the mayor at the school committee table. And if you like that, you'll love this-if they fire him,(believe me that is a BIG IF, and Laboy sues for wrongful termination ,it is also stipulated he be awarded triple damages. So if my interpretation is correct, the school committee fires him, he sues claiming breach of contract, wins(somehow) and his damages are already spelled out.

Thank you Mike Sullivan and thank you city attorney for doing a great job protecting Lawrence from scumbags like Laboy, Howshan, Matteo, Perkins and other rot who take us to our own cleaners. If I did not know better I would swear Sullivan planned it this way as a way of paying off his friends.
  • bobplugh · 2 months ago
"alleged" - What ever happaned to "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY"? You may not like it, but nothing has yet been proven. If we were going to hang everyone that has been ACCUSED of wrongdoing, there would be no one left to do anything.
  • turnhall · 2 months ago
    are you for real

why does laboy deserve any justice or respect, he never practiced it, he has ( and will get) what he justly deserves

more than available if you want to discuss this face to face
  • seealotofthings2 · 2 months ago
I heard he and his son are going to offer free pizza to the entire school system until his contract runs out which is why he is hanging on. They are in the back room of the pizza shop making the pizza 24/7 just in case it is accepted. LOL Much of it is being eaten as time goes by and I'm not going to say who's doing all the eating. hahaha
  • Larry the Watchdog · 2 months ago
Dr. Ahummmm, Dr. Laboy's contract is racially biased(Much like the MCAS), therefore he is not responsible for any of his actions that may nullify it's legality.
