I'll bet ALL OF THESE ADULTS receive a welfare check or some type of free assistance that they are obviously spending on drugs and booze..........and not the kids. Suspend their payments immediately for openers....then prosecute them back to where their ancestors came from.

As for DSS the legal standard to remove a child from a home is very high. This legal standard is totally seperate from DSS. It is the Juvenile court and juvenile court judges who make decisions. There are very liberal judges that would decide and most likely in this case to not remove these kids. For example, "these parents are uneducated and need assistance in keeping their house clean and orderly" Services such as a parent aide to teach these people how to clean would be ordered. Child care, afterschool programs would also be ordered. That is the missing piece when all these stories about DSS are in the press.

My grandmother came to Lawrence from Galway, Ireland in 1893. She had virtually no formal education.

She and my grandfather raised 7 upstanding daughters on the 3rd floor of a Park Street tenemant - during the Depression, without any help from the government figuring out how to clean the house.

There are no such charges of "child abandonment" on the books in Massachusetts. New Hampshire has laws. The NH child welfare system begins with a "CRIMINAL" finding and then custody and/or services are provided. Much different cooperation from families in NH.

Don't give welfare money to people unless they get a weekly drug test first of all! You don't need lessons to learn how to clean, just soap and water, a broom and a wet mop. If its dirty clean it, if the clothes are dirty just wash them. Thats it pay the rent, utilities and feed those babies! Thats it you don't need a formal education to do that, just common sense, for cryinoutloud!

Society complains today about children and teens becoming out of control, being desrepectful to adults in the community and promoting violent and crime. The school and community dont stop for nothing to blame teenegers and young generations, but it is not their fault. Don't you think that; if that group of youngster had the opportunity to have parental advise, good education or may be a helping hand, and advice, or even spiritual guidance, they will be acting this way. If the parents of ths babys flet the scene was because they were raised the same way, where there was not value for for nothing in live. Where is the local government to provide the good resources; like education, friendly father initiatives and even vocational opportunities and healthy baby programs. No they just prefer to change Essex Street into a two way traffic street and invest in infracstructure that does not make any sence. Educate and fix human issues first. Lawrence needs a new leader in the City Hall.

I think its time for America to get rid of the welfare system. We are the ONLY country that pays people to sit at home all day and mess up the next generation.

We'd have orphanages busting at the seems, homeless people sleeping all over the place, and theft rates beyond comprehension. I feel the welfare program is great for people who actually need it and don't make it a lifestyle. It's not meant to sustain people long-term, but that's how it's used. It's inevitible that with any public assistance program, there's going to be abuse and it's a shame.

I was raised in lawrence, moved back to lawrence cause of a divorce my family is here...I kick myself in the a$$ everyday. My daughter took a wrong turn and it took me 2 years of hell to get her straight......and I moved away now she is straight, but the only reason half of these people came here was because of the welfare system was the best. so they say.......now that they have a strict welfare system they should move back to where they came from..I was scared to walk down the street. when I first moved there as a child Lawrence was nice. Now its the pit...garbage filled streets and all trouble makers. I agree burn most of lawrence down and rebuild..

The police have been called to this house almost twice a week for over two years. About time. Between the cab drivers beeping to pick up females to have sex with and the constant screaming and fighting and filthy children running around at all hours you would think the LAZY police would have done something earlier instead of letting the morons breed.
Maybe the neighborhood can have a few nights of peace and quiet before it all starts again.

It's sad, I grew up a few houses away and didn't experience anything like this. For those of you who commented about "burning down the city" - that is not the solution. Let's start taking the welfare and state/city benefits away from these scumbags. Maybe they will relocate or go "home" - funny how these people live in Lawrence but refer to their native country as home.

My sister is being abused my these people. I am blamed for alot of it.

.. she needs serious help..and she's afraid of what will happen to her if she seeks help... and points out who really is abusing her.

i love my sister, and her little girl ...

because of these very people. my family is torn apart. and we lost our home. we lived at 8 phillips street peacefully before they destroyed it.

There is so much more to this horror story... it just might, give you nightmares.

Accept responsibility. She owns the house and has the most serious drug and drinking problem amoungst the people that lived there. A fine model of a mom. i actually lived there for a while... a group of spanish kids that lived on the second floor infested the place like cockroaches and beat my friends sister and all sorts of things.. i got jumped there cause of them too

Stories like this one really breaks my heart. I can't imagine why would any parent put their kids thru something like that. They had the kids sleeping with no blankets , probably with no fan or ac these people should really grow up and start treating their kids with more respect. Animals take care of their young ones better than these so call mothers. I would never have my kid in that type of enviroment, I'am young mom and work 2 jobs to give my 4yr old everything she needs and more. I love my child too much and will never put her thru anything like this. Those kids got woken up at 2:30am by the police , so sad it breaks my heart.

How is DSS going to help these kids? Put them in group homes? End result=repeat of parents' behavior in ten years if not worse! if the parents are on welfare, then dss has little to do in this situation but make it worse. Why do i say that? the kids will be the ones getting the checks, free food, rent, education, transportation, video games and the list goes on. End result? The kid does not know how to earn his/her money. Where did the moral of hard work go? DSS is just a money making corporation with little genuine help to offer. Anyone on welfare should participate in community service for 40 hours or more a week! this will probably save the taxpayer hounds of money. IF you are fit to party and do drugs you are fit to work!
