Thanks, RedMenace for jump starting my memory, you are right on! If my memory serves me correctly, I believe the Stadium and Beacon Projects were built to house our veterans returning from war to help them get their lives together with affordible housing and them achieve the American Dream (home ownership a safe and clean city) to raise a family. Just a thought, how many veterans do you think reside in these projects as we speak?

Well, if you live in Lawrence, bottle rockets blowing up above people's homes is NOTHING.

I suggest we all get American flags, tie a HUGE one across Broadway, Essex, Common and Union Streets, so that cars have to stop. When the cars stop, that's when we just stand there, give dirty looks, blow on fog-horns and just SCREAM in people's faces....

What made everything change, Rez? That's easy. You can
thank LBJ. He gave massive federal funding to cities across
the nation if they built public housing. Lawrence took the bait
and tore down a huge chunk of north Lawrence. Took it by
eminent domain. Where I spent my childhood is gone (Elm Street). LBJ initiated ALL of these social programs which have exploded in growth, his Great Society and War on Poverty. That's when the cancer was introduced. LBJ. The Great LIberal. Piece of Crap.

I grew up in Lawrence, upper and lower Towerhill. I attended the Bruce School. I can remember all of us kids getting along and having a great time,waiting for the ice cream guy (Knuckle Head) to come by with his treats. Oh! and don't forget the Rag Man with his horse and wagon to collect our trash. I can remember sledding down Congress St and the Rez I miss Hall and Tertins on Ames St. for the penny candy,across from St. August's. I miss Louis Pear'ls for the popcorn before a movie. I miss going to Morin's for lunch before a full a day of shopping at Sutherland's, Russem's and or course Woolwortrh's Oh and don't forget all the great food on Common St. crispelli's ,Tripeli's pizza, Lawton's just sit by the canal and enjoy. The Feast. These were great times. I'm sorry to see them starting to fade. all of these memories happened at time when we we could depend and trust one another.My parents worked separate shifts, so it was hard for mty father to keep me occupied at night. We would go to the Rez and toss the ball or just gaze at the tower. That was a great time in Lawrence. Please tell me what made everthing change?

One year I swear it rained all Hispanic Weekend. It was the quietest festival EVER. I live in North Lawrence, buddy, imagine the noise right outside your window. How about the crazy street racers? They peel out and I smell the rubber IN MY LIVING ROOM!!! Nine miles? YOU ARE LUCKY. I hope this "condition" doesn't happen to you.

Actually, I am willing to bet the reason Lawrence has been "ruined" is the fact that the mills moved from Lawrence to down south...meaning the southern United States where labor was cheaper. I'm sure that was the a large reason lawrence is now, "ruined."

really now?? i saw a few, and flags posted up, i went to the south lawrence east school, i was in the fourth grade, and the next day every kid came into school with a shirt with the AMERICAN flag on it, and we stood in the hall first floor to the second holding hands praying. and my grandfather and father are vets, we take pride in this country, even though my gradfather nor my father are born american citizens, yeah thats right, they are both from the dominican republic, and defended our country, when they could have been at theirs. in every home that my parents and grandfather owns, there is a huge american flag waving, not a dominican one nor italian one, but a american one. even in the dominican republic, our home has the american flag right next to the dominican flag.

i think the "annoying" music you are refering to is called reggeaton, just thought you should know spanish/hispanic/latin music is alot better than your hill billy country folk music, and rock and jazz was created by the african american people down south. but you should try and listen to some tango, bachata, salsa, or merengue sometime, get your feet moving. our music is very captivating. and the older music, altually has meaning to it, and believe me not all latins like reggeaton, my cousins ad older people in my dads side of the family hate it.

im sure that when you see the "hispanic" baseball players you say the same thing, i mean the ones that help the red sox win the world series. and it's pride in the cultures food, music, dancing, costumes, language, and being who they are and representing where they are from. just like the irish do, on saint pats day, when they go to the parade, and then they go to a bar or pub and get hammared.
