Windham representative leads fight against gay marriage
Boy, is that ever true now. Especially when only 3 out of 10 voters can get away from Twitter and Facebook long enough to go out and vote. Shame on all of you who didn't exercise the right that thousands of Americans died to guarantee for you.
As a result, we elect a less-than-brilliant lifelong hack who wants to "gift" his position to a slightly-more-brilliant-but-no-rocket-scientist hack-in-training.
Of course, the 70 percent who couldn't be bothered to vote are squawking the loudest at the coffee shop.
Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. 70 percent! You are getting exactly what you deserve.
Of the sitting school committee, Kazanjian came in last and Henrick came in second last. This is undeniable proof that the two big-time supporters of Jeanne Whitten have been totally useless and a waste of time for the children/parents/taxpayers of Methuen. People are aware of what has been happening.
The only one missing is Marcoux. I really don't know how he garnered so many votes when he is also in the pockets of Whitten. (Literally).
I hope this sends the right and direct message to the school committee. Stop giving Whitten a 'green light' on every stupendously, stupid thing she does. That $70,000.00 debacle should have been enough proof to everyone that she will do any conniving thing that she wants in order to get her own way.
The superintendent thinks that we, the people, do not know what is going on inside the schools. Favorites should be eliminated completely, (#1) and replaced with people who know what they are doing. Our children's future endeavors are at stake. We cannot be supporting a group of people, i.e., superintendents/administrators/coaches who think that the sun shines just for them.
At this moment in time, we have Mayor Manzi, Bob Vogler, Evan Chaisson, Barbara Grondine and especially the newest member, Ken Willette, that we can count on to do the right thing for the citizens of Methuen. After that, everything is a toss-up. Our only hope is for this committee to put a stop to an out-of-control superintendent, who cares nothing about the employees who have devoted themselves to our children in the past. No loyalty, whatsoever to them or to the Town of Methuen.
If there had been several more experienced people running, Henrick would have been off the committee, in addition to Kazanjian. We wiould have had a more beneficial outcome for all residents of Methuen who care about the situation at hand. Here's hoping for a better year and a more responsive administration.
Commenting for the Greater Good in Methuen.
I think you miss the mark when you group Mayor Manzi in with SC members Bob Vogler, Evan Chaisson and Barbara Grondine. I think the Mayor has done some good things - but on the SC I think he has failed us. He is the chairman of the SC. He had the opportunity to take the lead (as he is more than capable of doing) and working with the SC and behind the scenes with Queen Jean to either fix her or dump her.
In my opinion, he was absent in taking the lead here..he was also physically absent too often. I think his lack of leadership on the SC caused him to lose a lot of votes this last election. Imagine if he had been as tough/critical (but in a fair way) on Queen Jeanne as he had been on Al DiNuccio.
As you and I both know - by talking to residents, parents, and teachers - this superintedent has caused our school system to slide BACKWARDS. She needs to go for "the Greater Good in Methuen.
I don't collect checks or lay on my back for anyone. Typical alci. Yeah, I'll go to Shadi'
s you moron
Amazing to me that the Tribune can allow a comment like that to go through but won't let a comment telling you what you are to go through. A*)*)*)*)*)*
Here's what we should do. Start a recall petition to remove him from office. All I need is 149 other voters to do it with me.....
HOME RULE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF METHUEN
ARTICLE 8
Section 8-6
Recall Petitions
(a) Who Can be Recalled - The holder of any elective City office may be recalled therefrom by the voters as herein provided.
(b) Recall Petition - Any one hundred fifty voters may file with the City Clerk an affidavit containing the name of the officer sought to be recalled and a statement of the grounds for the recall. The City Clerk shall thereupon deliver to said voters making the affidavit copies of petition blanks demanding such recall printed forms of which he shall keep available. The blanks shall be issued by the City Clerk with his signature and the official seal attached hereto. They shall be dated, shall be addressed to the City Council and shall contain the names of all persons to whom they are issued, the name of the person whose recall is sought, the grounds of recall as stated in the affidavit and shall demand the election of a successor in the said office. A copy of the petition shall be entered in a record book to be kept in the office of the City Clerk. The recall petition shall be returned and filed with the City Clerk within sixty days after the filing of the affidavit, and shall have been signed by at least fifty per cent of the number of voters of the City who have voted in the last preceding local election, or in the case of a district councilman, of the district, who shall add to their signatures the street and number, if any, of their residences. The City Clerk shall within twenty-four hours of receipt submit the petition to the registrars of voters and the registrars shall forthwith certify thereon the number of signatures which are names of voters.
c) City Council's Action on Receiving Petition - If the petition shall be found and certified by the City Clerk to be sufficient, he shall submit the same with his certificate to the City Council without delay, and the City Council shall forthwith give written notice of the receipt of the certificate to the officer sought to be recalled and shall, if the officer does not resign within five days thereafter, order an election to be held on a date fixed by them not less than fortyfive nor more than sixty days after the date of the City Clerk's certificate that a sufficient petition is filed; provided, however, that if any other City election is to occur within sixty days after the date of the certificate, the city council shall postpone the holding of the recall election to the date of such other election. If a vacancy occurs in said office after a recall election has been ordered, the election shall nevertheless proceed as provided in this section.
FYI...Manzi is already looking to run for another office...he isn't even sworn in yet...
Whitten blamed the teachers for everything that was wrong in the school district. Her attitude left parents with a bad taste in their collective mouths. She wants to form a committee in order to further communications with the rest of Methuen's citizens. I guess the editorial by Glenn Fratto was not enough intimidation for the taxpayers of Methuen to absorb. Whitten now needs a public relations group to tell us how great she is doing as superintendent.
To be continued.................
Coakley gets Kenedy's seat
Baddour gets Coakley's seat
and Manzi is handed Baddours
I hate how entitled they all are...Manzi should return the 30-40K (he spent to beat the carpenter) to those who wanted him as mayor when he doesn't complete his term. I hope DiNuccio runs against this entitled thug for Senate...he appears to be the only one willing to stand up to him.
Mayor Manzi is entitled to be the leader of Methuen. He has done a great job, not always perfect, but always for the people. If Coakley is getting Kennedy's seat, Baddour is getting Coakley's seat and Mayor Manzi is being 'handed' Baddour's seat, what's the problem? Term limits? After six years, there's nowhere to go. You have no job, no income. Then what? You have to take care of your family, especially when you have children. Do you have another suggestion for the Mayor?
Word on the street...from a reliable source....you will be completely thrilled about who is running for Mayor.
I will only tell you it's a woman with mega experience in the political world. You will LOVE her! (And you will like her spunk among other things.)
Billy, try to have fun with what you're doing. Life is really too short. You should be getting a kick out of the fact that Henrick got his due and we didn't even have to lift a finger. He did it to himself! Now that is funny.
