The Eagle-Tribune: Haverhill City Councilor James Donahue censured for Web posts,

  • Commentard · 1 year ago
Don't forget that the Tribune has played a BIG part in this. I would be surprised if they don't get sued over this. He did NOTHING wrong. It was not their place to 'out' him.

I'm disgusted at the Tribune for such a childish act. I canceled my subscription over it.
  • BB · 1 year ago
If the Tribune tells it's readers on line that they can post anonymously and then violate that trust by exposing who the anonymous posters are and what their postings say....aren't they committing a fraud on their readers who have an expectation of anonymity based on the conditions set by the Tribune website itself? What's the difference between exposing and humiliating an anonymous source on line vs. printing the name of a news source who gives off the record information? Do you guys even know where the line is any more?
  • Commentard · 1 year ago
Exactly. Thats why I'd be amazed if Donahue doesn't pursue legal action. It would definitely be justified.
I wonder if we have any lawyers amongst us that would be willing to chime in.

what happened to free speech this a waste wow. this guy at least has some balls. what a bunch of wimps i think other councilor have done things in question and they dont get in this kind of trouble. they must be after this guy because he is young and has a strong voice. i wonder if they would like people investagating what they do on there free time how they would like it. i know of one councilor who rips of old people i bet someone else knows who this is.
  • Craig · 1 year ago
Donahue Did not do anything wrong. Shame on all other council members Besides Bill Ryan.
  • taxguy · 1 year ago
I'm not a supporter of JD but he made some valid points......Macek is so full of himself, he can slander JD's character but JD is not allowed to respond.......who is Roberts and why are his rules carved in stone? :)

I would encourage people NOT to post comments to the Tribune stories online. It appears that they have no morals whatsoever-in addition to having no editing abilities. I have called and left a message regarding the shocking inclusion of so many typographical errors in a once award winning newspaper. Apparently they can't clean up their own newspaper so have decided to divert attention from that fact by going after posters who should remain anonymous-no matter how many screen names they have. If the Tribune has done this merely to generate interest in their paper, they have really generated the wrong kind of interest.

"Roberts Rules of Order," see here:
    http://www.robertsrules.org/
We learned about this in Jr. high.

If you don't like the ET, and how it does business, than
why are you commenting on their free comment board?

I watched the City Council meeting last night, and Mr. Donahue's behavior was disrespectful and very immature. He claims that he didn't "violate anyone's rights" with his remarks, That his comments were to be taken as political satire! He needs to leave this genre to professional journalists, if that is what he calls his on-line bullying.

Suppose the shoe was on the other foot? What if another City Councilor wrote comments about Mr. Donahue on-line?
Would he then feel that his "rights were violated?" I don't think that he would appreciate it.
Councilor Daly-O'Brien is right. If you have something to say as an elected official, you need to have the guts to 'speak your truth' in the correct forum. Mr. Donahue's on-line comments did nothing to promote peace or unity amoung his peers.
Again, what if the shoe was on the other foot?

elliscee get with times.. Roberts Rules of Order DO NOT APPLY TO BLOGS! The whole premiss is to state what you really feel. which is usually the truth! or if you don't agree then SAY SO! CAN YOU SAY FREE COMMENT BOARD(YOUR WORDS)! Somebody must have connections in the Eagle Tribune to get the guys IP Address and then track to personal computer. I believe the ET may have some legal matters on their hands where I do not see any disclosures on this website. This is a disgrace and should be investigated by the ET internally.

    Last Post:
Taxguy asked who 'Roberts' was, so I enlightened him.
"Who is Roberts and why are his rules carved in stone?"
If you read his post, you would see that I merely answered his question about this.
"Roberts Rulesof Order do not apply to blogs." No kidding!
    You own me an apology!

Donahue has no class at all....what a joke

Same can be said about the Trib

The Tribune's actions related to this are very disturbing!
  • tony · 1 year ago
after the disgraceful behavior in the Jimenez funeral I do not put anything past what the tribune does anymore. this paper has no credibility whatsoever.
  • Lars · 1 year ago
To all of you who come here and post that you are so upset about the Tribune...don't you realize that each time you navigate to this site, you are adding money to their pockets? Stop reading, stop posting, cancel your print subscription, and don't pick it up at the store. That is the only way you will make your voice truly heard by the Tribune.
  • Barack HUSSEIN Obama · 1 year ago
why did the tribune hand over the info to nail him? o, because it generates news. turds,
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
I can't wait to see who the Tribune sells out next.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
Some fear and smearing republican who invokes the name of 9/11 to drudge up support for some lame brain scheme to help his friends get rich quick??????

Oh wait that's the president he already sold himself out to big oil
  • Barack HUSSEIN Obama · 1 year ago
yeah, we're just getting barrels and barrel out of iraq.

elect liberal b. hussein and you'll be worried about more than the price of gas.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
Elect Flip Flop McVain .. and we will all have flashbacks of Vietnam ...lol you think 8 years of
G "DUMBYA" Bush were bad .. How about a bitter 77 year old Vietnam Vet running the white house in the middle of a war ...
  • chimpy · 1 year ago
Yes, my worries will include the burden of a strengthening dollar and attempt at reducing debt, attention to world issues that don't gravitate around al-quaida and WMDs, renewable energy plans that are based on admitting there is that thing called global warming, basing policy on science and economics rather than religion, etc. etc. I'm sure those gas prices will be the least of my worries then. I hope this doesn't also mean we will have to save black people from hurricanes too, that is worrisome.
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
Elect the Muslim Barack Husein Obama and bin Laden will be secretary of defense.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago

Do me a Favor WAKE UP .. go back to the trailer Park .. and think of something new .. and something factual because man I can blow holes all day in your thoughts your wasting my key strokes with your nothingness ..
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
You'll be hearing all about it in the upcoming 527 ads.....just think John Kerry and the Swift Boat Vets for Truth.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
Swift Vets and POWs for Truth, formerly known as the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT), was a political group (527 group) of American Swift boat veterans and former prisoners of war of the Vietnam War, formed during the 2004 presidential election campaign for the purpose of opposing John Kerry's candidacy for the presidency. As of 2008, the group has ceased operations.

Ironically, Obama's great-great-great-great grandfather, George Washington Overall, was also a slave owner.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
And so wasnt your Grandfather so whats your Point .. He isnt running for Race Relations President....
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
His Distant Cousin Is Dick Cheney ... what other points do you have that America Already knows nothing Original yet
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
I was drawing a parallel to the damage SBVT did to Kerry.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
No you were inferring that the 527 Group was going to run attack ads against Obama .. when the group no longer even exists??? I quote you

"You'll be hearing all about it in the upcoming 527 ads." So when are you going to get your facts straight ...

You have yet to write a truthful and factual post about the democratic candidate ... and you wonder why nobody wants a republican in the white house
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
Sorry to disappoint, but my family has been in the country less than 100 years so there's no slave owners.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
you aren't disappointing me ... believe me
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
Anti: Why do you let yourself get so worked up over politics?
You can call W. all the names you want, but it doesn't change the fact that he was elected twice. Bush is definitely no Reagan, but he's also not the failure that Jimmy Carter is.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
No politics dont get me worked up .. Your one single man with one singular opinion .. GW is the president with his body of work laid before the public and a majority believe and will believe he was a failure, corrupt, liar, and many more names that Rival Jimmy Carter like no Other ..at least Carter was Honest and did not send us to war..... but you openly support this man so Im not getting worked up .. Im watching you make a fool of your self publicly for everyone to read and I just add the proof to that every time you post something you think is true and spewed out by the Republican Party.
  • bertcj1002 · 1 year ago
Anti,we're screwed no matter who gets elected. The only reason Bush got re-elected was because the Dems ran Kerry/Edwards .Obama and Mccain are both a couple of turds that don't give a crap about us. We need a 3rd party bad,and that won't happen in our lifetime.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
Bert I agree with you but I will take the lesser of two evils that being Obama .... at least he doesnt represents the same party as G.W. Bush... no matter who gets elected Taxes are going up because someone has to pay for Bush's 8 year binge ... i wish he had stayed on coke at least he would have killed himself first .. but I digress ..Im tired of 8 years of Republican pro business model ... I need a change and if Obama is what they are offering then I guess i have to take it then
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
That's funny, I just throw stuff out to work you into a tizzy.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
Yah it is considering im far from a tizzy.. Im glad you think you can read emotion from a key stroke.... I look at it as your the drunk guy at the bar who cant keep his mouth quiet and keeps getting punched out for it ... eventually you'll sober up and realize what a jackass you made yourself out to be and go home toothless...
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
I look at you as the kid who went to the prom with his sister. Eventually, you'll get a brain and vote Republican.
  • ANTIHAVERHILL · 1 year ago
    Cause thats the Republican motto
" Incest is best .. If you cant keep it in your pants keep it in your family...HEY MAWWWW"
  • Wake Up · 1 year ago
Anti: great analogy, but I don't drink.
  • crackerplease · 1 year ago
It would be interesting to know how the Eagle Trib could know it was his computer, from his house... They could say it was that the same computer made the posts, but to say it came from his house ?!?!?! They would need to get comcast (or whatever ISP) to turn over that info... Something that would not be done without a court order.... He should have claimed the Shaggy defense "wasn't me" : )
  • Brookline · 1 year ago
To post anonymously is pretty wimpy. Donahue deserves what he gets. Good heavens he should grow some cojones and post under his real name. He has a right to freedom of speech but he doesn't have the right to slander - there's a difference folks.

And he called some people boring? Oh I'm sure that really hurts.
  • Jennifer · 1 year ago
Aren't you posting anonymously, too? Guess you got no cajones, either.
  • J · 1 year ago
His photograph didn't disappoint me --- he looks exactly like the smarmy cowardly cry-baby he proved himself to be. Attacking his fellow councilors from his convenient hiding place of multiple phony names, and childishly supporting himself --- what a sad little boy among men. I can only suspect that the many favorable and supportive comments for Donahue listed here are likely emanating from his so-called stable of writers who send out messages on his behalf at 3:00 am from his home computer---- sad little boy. Take your ball, wipe your tears, and crawl home to Mommy. PS: Donahue --- I just know you read this ---- I know you did.
  • bertcj1002 · 1 year ago
I would think that a lawsuit is inevitable.A big one too.Sounds unconstitutional and hypocritical what the Trib did.Freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
