The Eagle-Tribune: Footbridge named after popular, 'colorful' man

  • Commentard · 1 year ago
They should have named it after Manzi. A worthless bridge in honor of a worthless mayor.

good for the roberge family. but the name of the bridge schould be
THE KISS ASS BRIDGE for the many times that manzi kissed pollards ass to get it. by the way is the bridge now open to everyone and is it safe to use it?

Its been open for months. Can't you see all of the people using it when you drive by on Lowell Street? Its packed!

    (sarcasm off)

it's as useful as the "bridge to nowhere" in alaska... maybe we should have pocketed the money like they did in alaska and used it for something more useful....
  • Pucker Up! · 1 year ago
the bridge to nowhere connects you with manzi's liquor store. Um.....

If they wanted to name it after a colorful man then they should have named it after Manzi. He is seeing green. 1.4 million dollars to build a bridge from the apartments to the liquor store. Can EVERYONE use it?

FRANK ROBERGE IS MORE THAN WELL DESERVING OF THIS HONOR FOR ALL HE DID THROUGHOUT HIS LIFETIME FOR THE CITY OF METHUEN.......HE SPENT HIS LIFETIME GIVING OF HIMSELF TO HIS COMMUNITY, FAMILY , FREINDS & SRANGERS....HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED FOR LOVE OF THIS TOWN.

    nicely put!
  • Commentard · 1 year ago
Oh you're absolutely right. The comments we're making are not meant to reflect on Frank's service and the recognition he's receiving. Its more about how silly this bridge's existence is.

You may not enjoy the bridge, or may feel that it was too much money. But, the purpose of this article was to honor a selfless man, who dedicated his life to Methuen. The bridge commemorates a wonderful life. You are petty in your negative input Commentard! You involve yourself too much with other people's business! Get a life!
  • Commentard · 1 year ago
Ya know what? You're right. Frank did too much for this community to have the article honoring him hijacked to discuss the ridiculousness of something that he had no control over.
    I apologize.

  • What a tribute! · 1 year ago
Frank Roberge was a wonderful man and had an amazing family, please post your negative comments about Manzi on the "Methuen" website and stop taking this treasured moment away from his family.

What a beutiful tribute to "Mr. Roberge". Our hearts still go out to his whole family.

I THINK IT IS A GREAT WAY TO HONOR TO HAVE ANY THING NAMED AFTER SOME ONE SO IF YOU DONT LIKE THE BRIDGE THEN DONT USE IT GOD BLESS MR ROBERGE
  • WELL DESERVED · 1 year ago
I am very pleased that Mayor Manzi decided to dedicate this bridge to a man who exemplified the role of a citizen to making his community a better place to live. Frank Roberge had a big heart and worked tirelessly and seflessly to help anyone in need.

While there are those who choose to criticise this project, I am compelled to remind them that for many years there was a bridge in this same location when the mills were vibrant workplaces. The idea for re-creating this bridge began in 1978 with the first stages of revitialization of Methuen Square. The bridge, the park on Osgood Street and a riverwalk were all included in a master recreation plan developed while I was town manager.

The Roberge Bridge connects the entire Osgood St area to the town center. It is not just a connection for residents of the apartments. More foot traffic means more commerce and more tax revenue for Methuen. Once the area around Shardi's is developed everyone can see why this recreation of teh bridge over the falls is so central wo a better town center.

Thank you Frank Roberge for all you did for Methuen!

I continue to enjoy the fact that whenever anything negative is said about Methuen, Massachusetts, Sharon Pollard' name is always mentioned and Bill Manzi' is in the same sentence.
They named the bridge for Francis T. Roberge to give it a sense of ligitimacy for what the moneies and time represented.
Do you really think Frank would have wasted that money on a bridge to a liquor store or would he have put it to truly good use?
