Windham representative leads fight against gay marriage
Hats off to everyone who ran for all the positions!
And while we did not agree with every opinion or every viewpoint, one has to give every candidate a vote of thanks for stepping up, for putting your name on the line, for taking your chances in an uncertain environment that demands not only courage but faith as well, the faith that you can make a difference.
In addition to the candidates, I want to mention the dedication and exhuberance of the campaign workers that I met and enjoyed working with as we each supported our respective candidates. So many of you were taking the time to participate, not for a job or any physical reward, but just for the pleasure in doing something for someone or something you believe in.
And then there were the citizens, the people who answered the doors and talked to the campaign workers marching up and down city sidewalks and streets, the folks who registered to vote for the first time, all those who came to the campaign events, discussions and debates, and yes, even those who watched the reruns on television at home.
I saw an informed electorate, residents who really want the best for the city, parents who worry about their children, and seniors who look to the city for support and essential services. This election, in more ways than one, proved the enduring spirit and dedication of the citizens of Haverhill.
