The Eagle-Tribune: Driver critical after I-93 crash closes highway for hours

  • Alex G. · 1 year ago
I was sitting in my car for two hours in Salem NH, moving literally 10 to 20 feet per minute, on Route 111 approaching the I-93 exit. They failed to notify anyone approaching that exit that the onramps to I-93 were closed, and I heard about it on the radio after about 30 minues of waiting. They did a poor job closing a highway for three hours during the evening rush hour. Gather your evidence, take the photos, clean up the site, and do everything else on the shoulder of the road, would you? An intensive effort would have taken maybe 30 minutes. I think they handled this quite poorly, and it resulted in catastrophic traffic jams. Route 28 was averaging about 5 miles per hour.

I hate state cops anyways (they're dicks with big egos who like to give out tickets for stupid things to meet their ticket quotas), but this makes me lose even more respect for them. They can't even do their job efficiently and instead cause regional, catastrophic traffic jams. I had to cut through a residential neighborhood in Windham with twisting, intertwining subdivision roads, following the two cars in front of me, hoping they knew where they were going. They did. Thank the lord some people have GPS.

Your ignorance is astounding. 30 minutes to gather all the evidence you need in a nearly fatal accidident? You can't even get the reconstruction team there in 30 minutes let alone gather all the information that you need.

Quotas? Are you serious? No such thing. And just what "stupid" things do you think they write tickets for?
  • Justice · 1 year ago
Wow, youre a real genius. Motor vehicle investigations take a long time to complete. Sorry you were stuck in your car for a few hours, but they need to be complete in their investigation. If someoen dies, the cops need to have answers. This isnt the first time 93 has had to be close down for a horrible accident.
As for your hatered of cops, get over yourself. Again, sorry you had to travel through Windham to get home. That sucks... maybe if you got out of your house a little more, it wouldnt have been such an adventure for you. You dont need GPS to find your way around. Take my advice... GET YOUR BEARING, NAVIGATE, AND YOULL FIND YOUR WAY HOME. Its not that hard to find your way around NH.

I was about 15 or so cars behind accident and yes the State Police handled it quite poorly on a few things. There had to be at least 9 state cruisers rushing to the scene of which one somehow had his front bumper ripped completely off his car. One cruiser blasts on his loadspeaker to clear a path on a two lane road with all cars having already sitting there for a 1/2 hour like we had a place to go "to get out of the way" glad he came to his senses and used the break down lane.
From what we heard they could have easly cleared one lane after they had taken care of the injured person. I am sure they didn't need to account for all the bits and pieces in their crime investigation.
Unlike the other comment I do have respect for law enforcement and just felt they get caught up in the moment with a sudden panic. they just need to learn how to react to the incent by standers in short fashion.
I hope and pray the the injured driver comes out of this OK.
  • Justice · 1 year ago
Actually CB they do need to account for all the bits and pieces. They will recreate the accident scene if this does happen to be a fatal so they can determine cause.
If you werent so stupid Id recommend a few websites for you too read about this stuff.

So Alex all you can do is think about your disruption on the commute home? So because of that you said that about all State Police Officers? Wow get a clue man. I feel for you and the delays but from all accounts it sounded like a pretty serious accident. Plus they have a team there to try and recreate the accident because they believe another vehicle was involved but obviously not in the area still. So this goes from an accident scene to a crime investigation, and you can only think about yourself. Go do their job and let me know how you feel after that. Show up at a traffic accident where a woman's young life is in danger because she is laying on the side of the road due to the erratic behavior of another driver. I mean ok be a little upset that you have to drive through Windham and the winding roads but come on stop bad mouthing the State Police because they are trying to help save a young womans life.

Bet she wasn't wearing her seat belt? Oh that's right. She doesn't have to in NH.
  • Scott68 · 1 year ago
Actually as we realized it was a he - and it still doesn't make your comments any less offensive all because you were late getting home.
  • Alex · 1 year ago
Hmmmmm, me thinks you might be a state police officer! Truth hurts, huh?
  • Scott68 · 1 year ago
Nope you are way off base. I just respect the men and woman in uniform who patrol our highway and streets.
  • scared · 1 year ago
wow all i have to say is you all are pretty ignorinate. how would u have liked if that was one of your friends or family memebers in that accident? wouldn't u like for everything possiable to be done? Now so you know i was also stuck in that traffic to find out the man injured was one of my closest friends and for all your information he is not doing well at all. instead of complaining about traffic why dont you all pray that he comes threw this for he is a father of a 9yr old boy. and pray that wasnt you in the accident or a loved one...
  • Scott68 · 1 year ago
Scared I'd have to disagree with you when you say "all" of us. I was not being ignorant and you should probably read my post again. I think what Alex wrote was ignorant though, so you may tell him that as often as you like. I actually mistakenly referred to the victim as a she, so I do apologize for that. It was an oversight on my part. I hope he survives and recovers from this horrible accident.

    Alex,

You were delayed from getting home to write comments to this story!
    Nice life.
  • Not stuck in traffic · 1 year ago
    To Alex G.
Think about the victim here. What if it was your brother, sister, mother, father or even a child more possibly your wife. The police are there to figure out just what happened. Seeing how there was anothe rcar involved that left the scene, wouldnt you want to know who was the cause if it was someone important to you? Sorry if it ruined your day along with others. Think how the victim felt.
People who hate police, are those who do things wrong. They are there to keep people like you off the streets whom cause accidents that kept people like you stuck in traffic. Dont bash law inforcement for doing their jobs. Maybe you can become a officer and show them how its done. Then again, by your insiteful comments, McDonalds is probably the limit for you. (Sorry to anybody that works for McDonalds, just a reference tool.)

Wow! Can't believe what I am reading....I too sat in that traffic for hours when I normally have a 10 minute commute.

When 93 was opened at 7:29 pm and you drove by the blue car, you knew it was a bad scene. So what if you where late for your evening plans...it's not as if it was not announced that it was a critical situation. What if it was someone you knew? Would you have reacted the same way? I doubt it.

I too was involved in a tractor trailer accident last year, the driver never stopped.

And to the idiot who made the comment about 1 of the driver's having been stopped for DWI, that was totally uncalled for and crast.

I am gratfull to the NH State Troopers!
  • aggravated · 1 year ago
wow! a few of you seem like chronic complainers. you wine about sitting in traffic for a couple of hours. consider yourself lucky because you still made it home to your families.this poor man may never make it home to his family again. get over yourselves!
  • bertcj1002 · 1 year ago
It's not the waiting they are complaining about,it's how it was handled and the wait time could have been reduced if they opened one lane. The staties are d-heads and DO have quotas (disagreeing to this are stupid people or cops) and it is relevant if the guy is driving after getting dui, especially if he was drunk
  • Thin_Blue_Line · 1 year ago
They do not have quotas, they have a job to do and that job involves writing tickets. There may be a minimum amount of contacts (stops) they are to have, but there is no set number of tickets that they need to write. Bottom line is this, if you don't want a ticket; don't speed, tailgate, weave, run stop signs/red lights, etc. If you obey the traffic laws, all of them, not just the ones you feel like, you won't get a ticket, even if there were a quota.

I'd like to see more cop action out there and more state police on the highways...I love seeing some idiot driving like an ahole get pulled over. It does suck to be stuck in traffic but I blame the guy that was weaving in and out of traffic, driving like a jerk....yeah..the guy that crashed that they were trying to help. He's the one to blame...he was sideswiped by an suv but it was still his fault because of the way he was driving....my neighbor saw the whole thing. Its you stupid reckless drivers that cause traffic jams...not the cops or state police.
  • a friend · 1 year ago
Can you explain "how" he was driving? Because as far as i can tell, it was bummper to bummper traffic before it even happen. You cant speed if theres traffic... If that SUV side swiped him.... i think the SUV would be to blame. Theres NO reason in the world to side swipe, or hit anyone with a vehical for any reason. THAT'S ignorant! ( I'm praying for you mario, wish i could have known you better, this never should have happen.)
  • fed up w/society · 1 year ago
to a friend - he was actually on the south side of 93 (where it was not bumper to bumper) to begin with...ended up on the north side after the crash. I was told by a witness that he was driving at high speeds, weaving in and out of lanes, pulled into the left lane too fast, got sideswiped spun out the car went up in the air and he wasnt wearing a seatbelt and he came flying out of the car and landed on the ground.
  • Someones Mom · 1 year ago
after reading ignorant, selfish, offensive posts by some holier than thou people, all I can say is this 38 year old man, father, friend, son, brother, doesnt DESERVE to be where he is now. NOONE deserves to die or damn near because of an accident. His driving record or someones opinion of his "erratic" driving is irrelevant as this point. Marios family and friends would certainly agree that how long you sat in traffic, or how many tickets the state troopers give out is a self centered view that has no bearing on where mario and his extended family sit right now. so for all of you that had to sit in traffic, trying to get home, at least you GOT home. Kiss your kids you self centered, all about me hypocrits, because you know you would be devastated if it was you or someone you love. Think before you voice your little opinion.
