OK folks, so I'm wondering just how much of an impact the $9.6M Water/Sewer approved by the council will have on my pocket. Should we anticipate another rate increase for FY09 as has been earlier proposed, or did this council actually approve that portion of the budget knowing that the funding will already be there without raising our rates yet again?

My point is, for all their bluster and BS arguments pertaining to the previous rate increase, did they again blindly approve that WSE budget without any consideration of where that money will come from?

Just a thought. Can methuen get some men from the half way house or low security jail on marston st. (not sure what it is exactly). To do the maintance on the parks and save the towm some money? Or and dont laugh but what about instead of in school suspention or detention at mhs. the kids did the work? Of course with the parents permission. I am a parent of two grown children and back when they were in high school I would have let them work hard for any mistake they made in school. It would teach the kids to have some pride for their community and maybe could cut costs in methuen any thoughts out there?

DPW Director Ray DiFore said at the City Council meeting last night that they do plan on utilizing the CAC workers from Marston Street this year! I think your second suggestions has merit as well. Kids working off their misdeeds is a good idea.

kel you need to get a grip it's justs past 8 in the morning and you are hysterical. May I suggest you take your meds post haste. What part of NO NEW TAXES do you find offensive? You obviously did not watch the meeting last night or you would have known the council did thoroughly examine the budget, and asked a lot of questions, all of which the Mayor had complete and informative answers for.

The Mayor is NOT empowered to raise taxes alone. It MUST be voted on by the council. Pay attention and you might learn something. The Mayor AND THE COUNCIL must agree on the tax rate that will be set in November. IF anticipated revenues are received then there is NO NEED TO RAISE TAXES. If the revenue stream does not meet expectations or what is needed to fund the budget (that they all approved), then a different conversation will occur.

I do not work for the Mayor. I do not work for the city. I am a resident observer who enjoys a healthy exchange about the budget and other issue about the town I live in. However, I have no need to reduce the conversation to potty talk. Apparently you do. More's the pity. I must comment that you may very well be one of the disgruntled. What happned to you?Lose an electoin? Can't get a job? I for one appreciate that Methuen has one of the lowest tax rates in all of the Merrimack Valley, and that Mayor Manzi succedded in creating and getting a budget approved that does NOT INCREASE TAXES! That you as a taxpayer don't get that indicates you have some kind of personal issue. Too bad.....so sad.

Why yes Retro I did lose an election, I wanted to be least likely to succeed, but that didn't happen. Actually I have been a Methuen resident for more than 50 years and have seen ALL the smoke screens and shell games before. I'm going to go out on a short limb and predict that before the budget has to be voted on again, Methuen will have another tax increase to pay off all the short comings of misappropriated funds and law suites.

The Mayor indicated that he is trying to work out a deal with the FEDS to pay back the funds on an incremental basis over a long period of time specifically to minimize the impact on taxpayers. They have not yet come to an agreement on that matter. Once again Mayor Manzi is left to shoulder the responsbility for something that occurred in another administration.

I would be happy just to see Solomon and the others that took that grant money be put in jail along with his ex brother inlaw (James Caron before he hits and runs another pedestrian or steals my construction equipment). It would be worth it.

People crack me up. They complain when taxes go and complain when they don't go up. I don't recall Methuen ever coming close to a prop 2 1/2 override. This town is full of screwballs. I grew up somewhere else so at least of have some recollection of living somewhere normal. Please will the housing market rebound so I can get off of planet Methuen.

have you guys ever seen LAWRENCE budget proposals/discussions. They are loud, confrontational and heated.

Metheun council/mayor are puppeteers to the puppet. Larry, shame on you for being tamed and joining those losers. All of you seem to have a name(nothing to brag about) in the community with people tied into jobs/contracts/positions, etc, which constitute a serious CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

I think you are all a joke. Lawrence may be lower in the socio-economic scale but the fire, police and town are much more efficient. Methuen is like a bunch of high schools kids running the town. Instead of Reno 911 it should be Methuen 911!

The councilors are all ancient with the exception of a few who are brain dead anyways!

His plow was taken for investigation and it appears something happened to him regarding this. why do you get so mad when people bring this person up?

Isn't there a million comments about Joe being fired or being related to officer getchell...providing special treatment to specific persons..etc.

Whoever wrote the comments disagreeing with, you clearly are trying to protect persons who are responsible for their own misdoings.
