Merrimack College deserves free services from the town of North Andover. Who cares if the town has to divert its money because of the added expense Merrimack causes, the college kids eat at Bertucci's! Fifteen dollar pizzas more than makes up for the expenses the town must incur! And the Merrimack kids are taught the wonderful lesson, important in today's society,t hat you can get something for free! Their school is, so why shouldn't they! They also learn that moral obligations are not enforceable and anyone who tries to compel another party to live up to its promises without a proper signed contract can just go pound sand. The kids need to know that if it's not in writing it can be ignored, irrespective of the morality involved and now thanks to the guy who runs the place, they know this valuable lesson

Re: Column: Putting the squeeze on a local college

I am offended by the shakedown remark! Why does the perpetrator always have a name like "Vinny"? Why couldn't it be something like, let's see, ah yes, "Taylor"?

As for the "promise", a "promise" is a "promise"!!!! Maybe Mr. Santagati should "pony up" since he made the "promise"?

Re: Column: Putting the squeeze on a local college

An interesting viewpoint. N.A. made it's bed. They set this plan up long ago. You can't run a town on a handshake.
Is the college being selfish and short-sighted? Definitely. But at this point it's their perrogative. They're contractually obligated to nothing thanks to poor business management on the part of the town.

Whoops.
