Windham representative leads fight against gay marriage
Those bastards! Why can't the celebrate peacefully?!??
"They enjoyed a variety of food, including virgin pina coladas, chicken dishes, fried dough, caramel apples and cotton candy."
UnAmerican! UnAmerican!!
Thank goodness that the 3 year old in the photo will finally stop celebrating her family's history.
If this is their country and they are here to stay they need tostop
referring to PR and DR as "Their" country while flying those flags...It makes people think
they are not totally committed to this country. Perception is a great ;part of reality.
But this tend to be a HUGE issue in the city.
We should have a day to display the American Flag, because we don't get to do so on the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, or Veteran's Day. It's unfair!
We need days to honor our troops, because Memorial Day and Veteran's day don't count for some reason!
We have the best country in the world. That's a fact based on nothing except the number of exclamation points I can use!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
America! YAY!
its called white flight. when my neighborhood gets taken over i will sell and move before its trashed and home values plummet. it will just be the same pattern as always.
where are all you guys going to move to when you destroy and trash america like you did your home countries???????
most of you cannot even support the kids you have now - what the hell are you thinking? its too bad presidents can't annonymously be president behind a curtain like the wizard of oz because you probably would be forced to work and learn english and not collect welfare, not get section 8, only be able to have the kids you can afford on your own, and if you did not like that you would be forced back to the dump you came from.
and if you don't like white america take a hike, white america supports alot of your people and if you guys don't like it then stop cashing the checks!!!!! its attitudes like yours that makes alot of people cringe. ungrateful freeloader.
REMEMBER PEOPLE IF YOU WANT TO PREVENT THIS "TAKEOVER" THAT JUAN PREDICTS, DON'T HIRE HISPANICS FOR ANYTHING, DON'T SHOP AT THERE STORES, DON'T SUPPORT THEM IN ANY WAY THAT IS IN YOUR CONTROL!! SHOP AMERICAN SUPPORT AMERICA.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ECONOMY - DON'T HAND YOUR MONEY TO SOMEONE THAT WILL BE SENDING IT BACK "HOME" OUT OF THE COUNTRY.
They are already starting on the wrong foot by breaking laws. This is civilized nation. Obey the law.
U.S. Hispanic Population Surpasses 45 Million; Now 15 Percent of Total
Posted Monday, June 23, 2008 :: infoZine Staff
The nation's Hispanic population increased 1.4 million to reach 45.5 million on July 1, 2007, or 15.1 percent of the estimated total U.S. population of 301.6 million.
Washington, D.C. - infoZine - National and state estimates by race, Hispanic origin, sex and age released by the U.S. Census Bureau also show that the Hispanic population exceeded 500,000 in 16 states.
Hispanics remained the largest minority group, with blacks (single race or multiracial) second at 40.7 million in 2007. The black population exceeded 500,000 in 20 states. Blacks were the largest minority group in 24 states, compared with 20 states in which Hispanics were the largest minority group.
Blacks were followed by Asians, who totaled 15.2 million; American Indians and Alaska Natives, who totaled 4.5 million; and Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders, with 1 million. The population of whites (single race and not of Hispanic origin) totaled 199.1 million .
With a 3.3 percent increase between July 1, 2006, and July 1, 2007, Hispanics were the fastest-growing minority group. Asians were the second fastest-growing minority group, with a 2.9 percent population increase during the period. The white population grew by 0.3 percent during the one-year period.
Overall, the nation's minority population reached 102.5 million in 2007 -- 34 percent of the total. California had a minority population of 20.9 million -- 20 percent of the nation's total, Texas had a minority population of 12.5 million -- 12 percent of the U.S. total.
Four states and the District of Columbia were "majority-minority" (i.e., more than 50 percent of their population is made up of people other than single-race non-Hispanic whites). Hawaii led the nation with a population that was 75 percent minority in 2007, followed by the District of Columbia (68 percent), New Mexico (58 percent), California (57 percent) and Texas (52 percent). Next in line, though not majority-minority, were Nevada, Maryland and Georgia, each with a minority population of 42 percent.
HAVE PRIDE IN WHERE YOU LIVE, NOT ONLY WHERE YOU CAME FROM.
whore.
Puerto Rico's drastic economic decline can be blamed on many factors, but the most prominent link is the unintended consequences of an expanding government role in the provision of welfare services. Economic indicators show that the Commonwealth's economic collapse coincides with a sharp rise in the amount of federal transfer payments being made to citizens. Transfer payments going to individuals have increased exponentially, from a meager $69 million in 1968 to over $8 billion in 2002. Disability, unemployment, and welfare payments received by citizens now account for one-fifth of the island's personal income. This massive social spending, which began in the 1970s and continues today, has resulted in severe domestic disinvestment in the economy. Domestic capital investment has declined from 32 percent of GDP in 1970 to 16 percent in 2000. This means that the Puerto Rican government, rather than supporting the creation of jobs and market incentives, relies primarily on tax-induced revenue and foreign investment for any growth in the island's GDP.
Sounds a lot like your plan.
From what I understand, a bunch of *real* Americans got together and kicked the German's dude @ss for being such an idiot. Maybe someone will come along and do the same to you.
For racism in this World there should not be a place
For the crimes of one you condemn a whole race
For some to be racist any excuse they will find
Since racism is born of ignorance and ignorance is blind.
On your thinking on race you seem so far from right
The windows of your soul are shaded to light
Like a malignant cancer racism does grow
Of this person's race how many do you know?
To our idea of perfection we may try to cling
But of a perfect race there is no such a thing
Before we learned how to walk we first had to crawl
And the reaper one day will take care of us all.
Everybody is somebody's daughter and somebody's son
And you condemn a whole race for the crimes of one
All sinners are obliged to live with their shame
And for the sins of the father the son you don't blame.
What RACE are you?
First off, there was A MURDER this week. A MURDER. So when there is A MURDER SO "Coincidently" during Hispanic week, you call that "Safe?" Really, you call MUGGINGS and A MURDER, "SAFE?" WoW.
Also, some of you are saying "Oh well it was SO SAFE b/c there was SO MANY cops..." Blah blah. Is that something your PROUD OF? Are some of you PROUD of the necessity of ROADBLOCKS, DOZENS of officers in each SQUARE FOOT of the city armed with guns, pepper spray and tasers...If that is being PROUD and SAFE, well then I can TOTALLY see how this once beautiful city became the EPITOMY of a WORTHLESS DUMP. You people are so illogical and are forever trying to justify everything. If you think what I mentioned is being "SAFE" well I am personally, TERRIFIED of what your opinion of UNsafe is.
Good Grief!!!
I'm SUCH a racist.
What does that have to do with racism? Paranoid much?

The Democratic primary in Puerto Rico is seen as an historical event where average Puerto Ricans are able to cast their vote to select the party nominee for the office of President of the United States. But, they do not have the right to vote for U.S. President or members of Congress.
The Puerto Rican Democratic primary and the increase in the number of Latino voters for president of the United States has opened an opportunity to dispel the notion that Puerto Rico is a colorblind society.
Sadly, racism is as alive and well in the United States and in Puerto Rico today as it was in years gone by. Some even suggest that Puerto Rico is a mulatto society.
In a recent edition of the New York Times, Juan Manuel García Passalacqua a leading political analyst states: “On the U.S. mainland, Obama is black, but not in Puerto Rico. Here he is a mulatto and this is a mulatto society. People here are perfectly prepared to vote for someone who looks like them for president of the United States.”
I disagree with Mr. García Passalacqua's premise. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. As a child I witnessed first hand the discrimination against Black Puerto Ricans and mulattoes . They were the ones who tended the land and did the menial jobs that White Puerto Ricans would not.
When the Hilton Hotel was opened in San Juan, the speaker of the House of Representatives, the late Ernesto Ramos Antonini, was ejected from the ceremony — because he was Black! The specter of racism has always haunted Puerto Rican society. This extends to the politics of the moment.
A conversation with a friend who prefers to remain anonymous, was related to me. He received a telephone call from his mother in Puerto Rico. She told him “We will not vote for a n----r.”
Mr. José Nazario Solá, a board member of various Latino organizations in New York said: “From work and contacts with Puerto Rican social service providers in Puerto Rico, their comments clearly indicate that in Puerto Rico there exists racist attitudes that impact adversely on services to the population.”
Mr. Luis Vassallo, a manager with a company in lower Manhattan said:
“I was born and raised in El Barrio (Spanish Harlem). A Puerto Rican friend of my family told my aunt that she was always welcome in her home, but not her husband — he was Black.’”
I have visited Puerto Rico frequently. I have heard the racial epithets uttered by Puerto Ricans from all social backgrounds against darker Puerto Ricans. Their favorite innuendo is “yo no quiero ese negro aquí” (I don’t want the Blacks here)
Senator Clinton told Puerto Ricans at an event in the island, that if she becomes President she would fight for the island's right to vote directly for President of the United States. However, she “forgot” to tell them that it would require a constitutional amendment.
Meanwhile, back to the Puerto Rican primary next Sunday. According to the polls and the political pundits, Senator Clinton is the favorite to win there. However, the pundits have failed to mention that race is as big a factor in Puerto Rico as it is in the States.
What the HELL are you blathering about?
One big family of Humanity? And so I should support you financially because we're 'one big family of humanity'.
Oh, please.
Say all you want and talk all you want NOT ALL LATINOS collect WALFARE....... Don't get your self twisted, get your facts straight before you come on here and try to say you or anyone else support me financially because neither you nor anyone here pay for my expensive taste.........
If they're in the majority and on assistance, the government won't be able to sustain itself. The TAX-TAKERS will outnumber the TAX-PAYERS by a substantial margin. And everything will pretty much resemble a slum in Puerto Rico. Or Mexico. Something for us to look forward to. Right, Juan?
Several years in Michigan the state sent a letter out to all on welfare. The letter said the the last welfare check you receive would be the last you will receive. The state of Michigen has run out of money and cannot support you any longer.
In Massachusetts the pols just flip the taxpayers upside down and shake you until your pockets are empty.
are you nuts? They couldn't wait to come here and scam the American people. They wouldn't be getting WIC and utility assistance where they came from. Coming to America wasd like winning the jackpot.
unbridled liberal 'compassion' for everyone but
ourselves. This lifeboat called the United States of
America is about to sink under the weight of the
compassion of bleeding heart liberals trying to save
the world by plucking all the dying survivors from
the ocean and placing them on our lifeboat
and now, they have doomed all of us to drown.
It was terrible, the worst human disaster in the settlement of the Americas.
The motto? He who lives in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
Hypocrites = Latinos
By and large, they refuse to assimilate, they haven't for thirty years. What makes you think that they will at any point?
And you say your father complained of the French 'taking our jobs'. Horrible people. Coming here to this country, working and all. You cannot compare the French, or any other ethnic group, with this rabble.
The only thing Hispanics know how to work is the system.
those same ancestors raped and Pillaged Central and South America along with the Carribean ... its awfully hypocritical of you to Say White folks took the United Stats and Mexico and PR ... you need to go back to school and learn more about your "Heritage" Learn about your anglo ancestors that were a part of wiping out the Natives in the Carribean
changed and it no longer was Spanish anymore. How would YOU feel about your Motherland. I am tired of MY MOTHERLAND being altered.
If Latinos here in America are Proud of their Islands and where they come from and who their Ancestors are then 2 things
1. Why do they come here from their awesome islands that they love so much and care for so much. Why is that? If their 3rd world Islands are so good why do they come here?
2. Why dont they complain to Spain about supporting them and sending them financial aide? They are after all Spanish people correct? Why arent they citizens of Spain rather than the United States .. PR and DR serve no vital interest to the united states other than Vacation destinations becuse you dont see millions of Americans running to PR and DR to live do you?
time, they hate America. They see Americans as racists. But what they're too ignorant to understand is that these 'racists' of which they speak, are supporting them. And were it not for these 'racists', they'd be scrounging for their lives back in their hell-hole islands.
::golf-clap::
Or is that beneath you?

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
God Bless the LEGAL immigrants who come here and choose to build a life here, assimilate to our society and WORK. God damn the ILLEGAL immigrants and the check collectors taking my hard earned tax dollars.
that is soo funy you say that. I was thinking the same thing.
I love how they come over here and push us around, but you don't see the white race spitting our heritage in their faces in their countries.
You have got to be kidding. Since it's ability to muster a navy America has pushed it's presence and its interests into every country that it thought might lead to its advantage. Is that a good thing ellen? Hmmm? I guess you would say it is. Because it's America doing it. Just remember it's America that took control of Puerto Rico not the other way around. It's America thats been spitting its presence into other countries faces. The chickens are comming home to roost ellen...and you don't like the fact that the chickens are now sitting in your living room.
Wow, good comeback.
If I just might say, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, you're a moron.
Excellent, creative, OUTSTANDING use of the adjective describing country.
::Whistle, Stomps, Cheers::
Like I said...idealistically, now some of you realists can tell me yes fun, if you like being shot, robbed, blah blah blah, if you use that logic you wouldn't go out of your home for any occasion.
Other ethnicities do it quietly .. why cant the Hispanic Festival???
Because of the reason you stated just above: 'I agree that the
festival has brought on the unfortunate side effects of crime...'
Umm, there ya go.
What I don't agree with is saying the Hispanics are spitting it in our faces. They're celbrating for themselves, not against white people. People on this blog feel like they are doing it in spite of white people, like there is a plan all year to stick it to the man. Obviously you have no respect since you feel obligated to cheer on the use of derogatory names, so I don't expect you to be able to open your narrow mind. With the best regards, I hope that you can let go of a little hate. I recognize a lot of the problems that Lawrence and other Hispanic communities in this country have disproportionately contributed too. The facts do not lie regarding crime rates, etc., but somehow constructive change needs to overcome destructive division, from all sides, we all need to look at ourselves whether anglo or hispanic or whatever.
Just so you know, with my 'narrow' mind and all, my mother is Cuban. She despises these people more than I do. Because they have destroyed her people's proud heritage. She doesn't understand why there is no assimilation, there is no embracing of any American ideals, and no appreciation for what America has done for them.
She was quite proud to point out to me that for all the different 'nights' they had at the festival...Mexican, Dominican yada yada yada, there was no Cuban night. Perhaps my mother, along with other Cuban-Americans, is narrow-minded as well.
I have regretted those words since I clicked "post" as I do not know you and am not proud to diverge from the discussion to sling insults. For that I apologize and hope you will accept my regret. I know there are numerous people who share the heritage but despise the actions of those most visible within that community. I am a bit optimistic in feeling that good will shine through over bad, and the face of the hispanic community will be looked at as positive. I need to open up my own mind to understand the views of others, as you pointed out that I was quick to point the finger.
Remember when you could go down to essex street any night of the week and shop at several stores?
Remember back when all the irish and italians immigrat3ed to lawrence to work in the textile industry?
They faced what all people should face now.
You either learned english, got a job ,or got lost !
Why do hispanics have to food shop with 14 memebers of their family....half of whom are in pajamas?
Why is Lawrence the car theft capital of the entire nation?
Why does the police log contain 99 percent hispanic offenders?
Why is it that when I take a day off and go to walmart I can't find a parking spot there at 11 oclock in the morning?
Lots and lots of "shoppers" are there.
At the end, it all amounts to what is acceptable in anyone's culture. What's acceptable in 'our' culture is not acceptable in 'yours' and we need to come up with a solution so we are both happy.
Back then it was simple....
If you decided to migrate to Lawrence you had to learn english....and get a job.....AND THEY DID.
If they couldn't speak english they suffered and didn't get things handed to them on a silver welfare platter.
If they didn't get a job and pay taxes and contribute to the local economy they hit the road.
Now all we have to do is wait for the Monarch on the Merrimack to open so that all the FAMOUS BILLIONAIRES who are BEGGING and PLEADING to move to Lawrence come and FINALLY make this city what it should be.
YAY!! GO LAWRENCE. LAWRENCE is LIFE.
I have always been a VERY open-minded individual, until I moved to Lawrence on my OWN and witnessed it's fury with my OWN two eyes. How could they have charged me @ 27 years old when I was NEVER arrested in my life? Easy, when you live in Lawrence, your seen as a law-breaking low-life. Sad to say, but it's the truth. Judges, cops, lawyers and everyone else could care less if you were just "Trusting the wrong people," B/c they have the idea "Yeah, ok whatever...EVERYONE'S not guilty." Bottom line, if you want to be SEEN as a hard-working and law obiding citizen: Get OUT of Lawrence...What happened to me could happen to anyone.
And HOW can you call this "your country" if you are not Native American???? Didn't the early settlers steal all this land anyway?
And didn't all the other immigrants speak their native languages too? I know my husbands parents did, they spoke Italian...but that's alright with you, I guess, because they are not Hispanic. So much intolerance and hate, it's sad to see.
